use a spell checker in any applicationSpell Checker, 140KbU.S. English dictionary for Spell Checker, 335Kbcustomizable dictionaries (that is you can add terms to a dictionary) While Spell Checker has a big dictionary, but it lacks some words it should have. (Or, I should say, the U.S. version does, as this is the one I use. I expect the others do too.) This, however, is only a minor problem, because of the way that spell checkers work. They look up each word in a document in the dictionary, and if the word is not found the program thinks it is misspelled. So if the word "cookie" was omitted from the dictionary by mistake, "cookie" will show up as misspelled. No misspelled words will be counted as correct, only properly spelled words that aren't in the dictionary will be flagged as incorrect. Asking for suggestions will tell you that the word in question is missing because the correct word will not be amongst the suggestions. With a click of the mouse you can add the word to the dictionary. This is the only free spell checker for Win 3.x I've seen, and really, it works well. The dictionaries come separately from the program. You can download the US English dictionary here or visit their web site for others. |
