XQuest

play a fast paced video game with a sense of humor

XQuest, 313Kb

XQuest is a fun and funny shoot the aliens game that runs under DOS. You run around collecting gems as quickly as possible while avoiding or shooting the aliens that are out to get you. There are lots of different meanies to deal with, and they each have their own particular sinister ways. Their differences are important: you can't deal with them all the same way. As you go, you can collect "power ups" that give you special powers.

XQuest's graphics and sound effects are high quality, the action is fast paced, and the game has a sense of humor that I really don't know how to describe (so I won't). The game avoids the overly graphic death and splattering blood that many video games have these days. Highly recommended.

You will need a sound blaster compatible card to really enjoy the game, because XQuest just isn't that fun without the sound effects. XQuest runs reasonably well on a slow 386; it runs ideally on a fast 386 or higher. Run XQuest from the DOS prompt (not under Windows) because Windows 3 doesn't like DOS games using the sound card.
