WOW Memories Live On!

I do NOT live in the past. I will remove WOW from my hard drive when necessary {maybe}. OK..... fat chance.
On this page we can have some fun with WOW. When life seems dull and meaningless, we can reflect on the adventures {or nightmares}.

Do You Recall?
Below are some {very fond} memories of WOW. I'd love to add yours! Please keep them short and utilize your sense of humor. { You MUST have one if you lasted longer than a week with WOW.} Please send to:
Beth@wow.member.orggrline.gif 0.08 K

KKelley945 : " Email takes the cake. You'd write and hit send and pray on both knees that it would get there, if at all. Forget a time and dateline: I would always put the YEAR on it. After dumping caches and fcabinets and kicking the hard drive the mail would come in floodlike quantities."

MommyPecan: "I'm still waiting for my T-shirt"

Gasman7 : "You usually could not sign back on in your normal screen name. One night I remember being wowed like 3 times! Each time I returned to the room I had been in as a different name. I had to resort to a drastic measure. I ended up signing on under my daughters account. Back in the room nobody recognized me. Well who would think Gas_Man_7 could ever be Sunflower_181? I had a real hard time convincing everyone it was really me. It took me a long time to live that one down."

Ultraos1: "Once I spent a night in a Wow chat room disguised as a Funeral Parlor. I know this may sound bizarre but that Funeral Parlor was one of the liveliest times I had on Wow and one I shall always remember. For me Wow was all about the people, Jan, Joyce, Paul, Kathryn, Beth, Beck,Dove, Mary, Judy, Linda, (why so many ladies?) Dave (a man) and so many others who welcomed me and became friends I cherish for times I treasure."

Ltlhippo : "I remember being in a chat room and getting the great message "New Mail". How exciting, then you had to LEAVE the room to get it, and when you finally did ...........well it was just something you had sent YOURSELF to test the mail. I got more mail from myself from testing than I did from actual people."

BesoDeOro : "I waiting for my t-shirt too and thank god aol doesn't have chatroom monitors"

DOMIN8RX: "One time I signed on and created a room called "Apple Jax's Room" so all my friends could find me easily. I had the door locked so only my friends could come in. I got bored and decided to search and see if anyone was on. While I did this I got kicked out of my room and it was locked, so I couldn't get back in. Then, like 20 mins later, someone was in my room and wouldn't let me in!!!! I was like -- Hey -- that's my room!!! :)~"

SAILFREEEE: "The evening was late in Wow Mom and Dads. Olive started describing the pizza that had just arrived. Everything known to mankind was on that pizza. As the normal crew was trying to figure out how it must taste, a stranger started giving Olive a hard time about heart problems that could be created from eating such food. Olive kindly tried tried to silence the stranger but he wouldn't stop. I came to the rescue and told him in no uncertain terms to give it a rest. He left the room shortly after, never to return."

Critter06 : " "Cheers" was a WOW cyberbar that was frequently visted by many...Joyce, O-Eyes, Bree, Edad, Saxy, The Bartender, penguins, Paint Chips and Iguana Dip, Jitter, BugBug, Breno, Jean, etc...watch for WOW!Cheers this Fall and stop in for a few."

Chezyquack: "I met PWillson2, NewHeart3, BlessbyHim, in one of Granpa's rooms. We had fun learning to send funnies and just fellowshipping. Wow had the greatest chat rooms, but also some pretty sneaky people who could type out messages in the rooms under your internet name. Those evenings sharing, praying and caring for one another were wonderful."

MRobespier: "my gang was into playing trivia,,,get the answer, you get to ask the next question,,, but the real fun was seeing how many rooms we would need for a night; as a room froze someone else would open the next one,,,i think the record for one night was 8"

From Yours Truly: I got my WOW Tshirt... ha ha ha

AutumSky7: "one night I had three chat rooms going but couldn't get back into any of my rooms because wow locked me out after it disconected me for the 3rd time. So I just found another place to chat while all my friends wondered where I was. Wow got me for the 4th time but this time it woun't let me back on because it kept saying I was already on line."

Chpmnk: " I remember entering a chat room one night and there were all kinds of people there, some I knew some I didn't. The first thing that was said to me was from Deputy_Dave.....and he said Hey sexy, wanna get Married?, Now he had no idea who I was, and I was thinking this guy needs major therapy. But the one thing I loved about wow, was the people. Everyone cared about each other, we laughed and cried together, WOW lives!!"

Jmoore 7656: "Halloween night, or around there, when there were a bunch of rooms with the Halloween theme. I opened a room and called it "Halloween Bash". Absolutely noone figured out who I was until the very end, when I gave in due to one of my infamous headaches....I was using my brain too much I guess........NSmith_35 [Neal] didn't even know it was me ......he still doesn't ROFL!!!! Pssssssssstt, Neal I was KMumbles.......which was one of my kid's name......it was great......and one of the most crowded rooms I had ever been in !! Hey who was that Pocahontas person? ROFL !!!!!!"

Night 425: "My fondest memory is the mail. It would get there a week later. Also the best is I met my two best friends there. Oh yeah, and getting locked out of my own room."

From Shery Sista: "Agape's Coffee Shop. We had soooo much fun, go figure... at times there were giant lobsters chasing us around! Of course they came off of someone's plate of food!! Then there was a giant ninja turtle that was the blow up kind, well we blew it up so that it would protect us from that awful lobster! Sounds crazy? It was! Everyone who came in there just let go, and all were a part! Those were the best memories for me in that little Coffee Shop."

Mysty4Ever: "Room Size, EMail or lack there of or abundance of (all at once), FREEZING, Turtles pace sign on, Hackers, Children, AGE/SEX CHECK (every 3 minutes), Finding a Member Online (UNAVAILABLE, and no way to get in touch till he/she landed in a room somewhere and then getting DENIED! LOL, Room Hopping (can you believe I didnt enter a chat room till 2 weeks after I got on wow? LOL!), ooohhh so much more! Seriously though, the best thing about WOW was a friendship that blossomed and I still have with a few very special people...I can honestly say WOW inadvertently changed my life, got me interested in computers and caused me to quit my job and go to school and get a new career....nuff said....Thanks WOW <smile>"

Ridefx: "I had to Re-install their software about 4 times so I could get my Mail. I was constantly cleaning out my Cache, and a few other tricks Doug (The tech), told me about, just to try and get mail. I got bumped off (Frozen) daily. (some days Hourly), and I had mega problems getting to the Web, When I did, I would have to wait for ever! But ALL-IN-ALL, I STILL MISS WOW."

Daisy28192: "I was supposed to "meet" a good friend..online.WOW wouldn't let me on..I tried and tried and tried...and couldn't get on.The WOW tech was so sweet and tried to help ..but he said I wouldn't be
able to get online that night.....I said "Oh I have to meet this person!!!!""Please..help me" ...hehheee....Could you send him a message or something??The Tech said it wouldn't be right....to just walk in a room and give a message for me.....but I talked him into sending the person mail...for me...lol...He worded it himself!!!!! hehhee..No one could believe I got the tech to do that...ahhh but that
was WOW ..even the techs were friendly. My friend did get the mail....3 days later.....LOLOL....."

Maggie713: "Mine is a success story. I received my t-shirt...never worn it and am waiting for the price to go up. What am I offered?
I still have not received my AOL shirt however, what about it
Al?"

DJW40: "My favorite Wow memory has to be the night we had Deputy Dave on the lumpy couch! He stood no chance with all us women on that couch. I felt welcome the first night I went on Wow, and had such a blast. I MISS WOW!! What made it so special was that we never knew how long we had before we got "wowed" for the night and couldn't get back on...LOL. Of course Beth is the Queen of Wowed..:) I still don't know how she did it, but she couldn't stay on for more than 10 minutes without being kicked off or frozen! I learned a lot from you, Beth....LOL. Love you guys! LONG LIVE WOW....:)"

LaTiNoVaTo: "I was one of the first people on W.O.W. and I remember how easy it was to clone and break into rooms. I remember one time when i was cloning people and one lady named Donna was flippin out because i cloned her and she was like there is a "hacker" in the room it was soo funny cause then every one was callin wow sayin Donna was the "hacker", well my friends and I were laughin soo hard cause i was just messin around and she got kicked off that was what was great bout ol' W.O.W. u could get others introuble and never get caught altough i remember gettin kicked off for 3 days cause my girl and i were pickin on a CHAT MONITOR, ya then WOW said they were gonna send me a t-shirt which i am still waitin for."

Milady50: "i think the fondest memory was feeling so much at home. No one was a stranger to any of us,and oh dear the poor couch, it sure caughtHEL*.and devs room he had at night for us wow was such a great memory. Dev always made anyone who came in his room welcome, there was tas dev, Jackie roy toy and dev's wife angel, he always knew when i came in he would fix me a martini. Then there was a guy that i truly cared about who made such a difference in my life forever. Beth thanks for the great page, tears streaming.

NikiWiki: "When I first signed on to Wow, I was such a novice that I didn't even know how to shut my computer off properly. With all the problems I encountered on Wow, and all the knowledge I gained from MY tech (who also knew me by my voice as "Niki from Texas!") I went on to actually become a tech myself! Who would've ever thought! =) I am still VERY close with several of my wow-family members. I LOVE you guys, and if it hadn't been for y'all, I don't know how I could have survived....or ever learned to love again... =*) The last day of Wow was perhaps one of the hardest days of my life.... {{{{{{{Group Hug!}}}}}}}

Lilykiss: "wow`s locating system was good for telling you where someone was, but by the time you got there it never failed that whoever you were looking for was gone, night after night i would chase jknife7/wack_pack all over the place unable to hookup only to find out later that he was chasing me around also, but because neither of us stayed in one place long enough we kept missing each other.....wasnt funny then but makes me now."

Mzkitt: "I was the originator of The Longbranch Saloon, after a month or so, several close friends would make the room if they happened to log on before me...which wasn't unusual since WOW almost never wanted me there.... imagine that!! One particular nite, I knock on the door of my room and was denied entrance.. ok.. so I knock again, and again, and again... 20 times in all before finally calling long distance to DeCe.. who had the door that particular nite and asking him WHY won't you let me in... he had no idea that WOW was denying everyone who knocked.... he was there most of the time alone wondering where we all were!!!!!!! Love WOW anyway!!!!"

CarolS2Wow: "I used to open a room called Carol's 40+ Chat. One day, I decided I would see how long I could keep the room going or for me to stay on line. One hour, two hours.....four, six... I got hungry...went out for pizza, came back and the room was still hopping. People were coming in continuously and leaving, and coming back later. Commenting on how they couldn't believe this room was still open. After eating the pizza, I resumed my position as hostess. Time passed. I thought I'd keep this going and break a record, but then CarmaBGood came in. I was telling her how I was approaching the 12
hours straight, with no freeze, mark.. She told me she had a room open for over 20 hours once...:-(. She burst my bubble, and I let it stay until 12 hours and 20 minutes. Then told everyone I was leaving, which meant the room would close and no one else would be able to get in. We never could allow that...we didn't have instant messages and if we were in a locked room, our friends couldn't get at us. It's not like they could even e-mail us and we'd get it. I loved WOW, it brought me a new world, opened me up to new friendships that continue to this day, but do I want to go back to that,,,,No, so sorry. But I am saving the disk and the tee shirt (yes, I got one, after it closed down..ROFL), and I'm still waiting for the upgrade...<smile>."

Milady50: "ya know thinking back, i found a friend in wowland that taught me who i truly am, this person still remains in my heart as my bestest friend. We wowies will always have memories of what a cyber family is. We loved, we fought we cryed, but most of all we laughed. This page is so great. I cant stay out of it. Stuck in wowland again LOL"

Marnotded : "I remember the first time I was "allowed" into Married With Children. I already knew Beck from AOL's At Home Moms and found her one night. She brought me into the room and I was immediately welcomed into the fold. I met a fellow Marylander and Howard Stern fan in there (Ultra -- love ya!), along
with some of the nicest people I've ever met. I loved being tied up to a bed
on my birthday and being licked up and down by someone who shall remain
nameless. Yes, staying in a room was a challenge, and the mail was hopeless,
but that's what made WOW what it is today -- defunct! Just waiting for the
next Howling -- I promise not to throw up!"

Blondie16: "Aww..the memories! I'm still friends with almost everyone I talked to on WoW! The mail was a nuisance..and the freezing was a pain..but the people were
great! I remember the last day of WoW we promised to keep in touch either
through AOL or snail mail. I have the WoW CD leaning against my computer's
monitor..maybe someday I'll get rid of it..probably not though. --Sydney (aka
Super_Syd)

Pappabear: "I moved to an area without internet service just before WOW closed. Ihaven't talked to my old WOW friends for a year and a half. I'm back
online now and we are all getting together again. It's really great.
We were all NASCAR fans and we were all online during NASCAR races,
mainly Winston Cup races. I really missed our online chats and I'm
happy to be resuming them again. I want any of my old friends on WOW to
look me up. "

DHCrasher5: "I remember.. me and a friend,Irene met each other. we told everyone we weretwins.. my (nick)name was dais and her's-daiz. she lived in state of washington with our dad(?) and i lived with our grandparents in NC. Everyone
believed us.. we had brown hair and hazel eyes.. and i think we were about
5'7! Wow! has so many memories.. and was so friendly! I remember picking on
the chat monitors and following them around until they would finally stop
going in rooms after about the 10th time! i still keep in touch with the
Wowies.. and even some i didnt ever know on wow! we all miss wow!!! ..'cept
its email and..internet*sigh*
... oh! and.. I GOT MY T-SHIRT!!! <grins evily>"

AzDesert Rose: "My career as a WOW hostess started with a morning coffee clatch. We would
all sit around in our PJs, drinking coffee \_/>\_/>\_/>, handing out "cimmon
rolls" @@@@@, and describing what we had (or didn't have!~) on at the time.
It was mostly ladies, but the occassional male would wander in, and be
attacked without mercy! Before we knew it, it was noon, and we were all
still in our PJs!!! WOW brought me out of myself, and out of a loveless 25
yr. marriage. I love WOW and all the friends I made there. The internet
will never be the same, and I still don't have my T-Shirt either!!! P.S.
I reinstalled so many times, I don't think I ever PAID for WOW!!! Doug and
I were great friends!!!"

Ladyarwen: WOW ! was the turning point for me...after being on AOL
and paying thru the nose every month; the $17.95/month was
heaven !!! but oh my ......getting WOW!ED out of a chat room
used to FRY me !!!!!! ( almost as much as getting denied
!!!) ANd email ?????? Nonexistant for me !!!!!!! I finally
gave up and got an account on juno for email !
but the roomies and the chatters i have met have been some
of the greatest people in the world !!
From Vinnies on the corner and Sharons coffeehouse ... to a
hidden room buried on EStreet ......(not too many found
thier way there !!! ) i have made friends that are still
with me today! One of the things i had learned to do ..was
to set up Mosaic (it was a browser hidden somewhere on the
WOW! CD) to show me the member directory .....and i could
look up peoples information without leaving the chat room
.......used to scare the begeezers out of some !!!! I earned
the name Superlucy after a few nites of that !!!!!
I still have the CD ........we hang it on the Xmas tree
every year .....with many FOND memories of the thing that
made WOW! great .........the people who used it !!!!!!
lucy_ann_3

Mis_C: "I've got my T-shirt too!!!! ...and Joyce, I was Pocahantas!!! LOL!!!"
