I also taught programming at all levels from diploma (NCC, CDCS, IDCS), Advanced Diploma (ADCS, BCS) to Degree level (BIT - C programming and COBOL programming).
At the same time I was also studying the BIT (Bachelor of Information Technology) degree but wasn't very successful. Couldn't pass some important units and wasted about 3 years trying. Couldn't cope with work and study at the same time.
Anyway, now I've switched to a different degree programme (UOW) and hopefully will do better in this.
My favourite programming language is Pascal and for a long time I've dabbled in it writing small programs. I wrote a simple scheduling display program to help ease the work of the schedulers in Informatics 4 years ago. It's still being used in the Course Administrator room today.
I've learnt a lot from Informatics but it's time to move on and learn even
more. I thank all my students and friends for making my work here at Informatics so
fulfilling and satisfying.
I'm going to miss a lot of things in Informatics espscially friends and my students.
Today I'm no longer a lecturer of Informatics and I'm kinda sad as well as excited at the new job prospect that lay ahead of me.
My name is Andrew Ooi and I have been a lecturer with Informatics for more than 5 years.
Started with a salary of RM600 - rather low even for that time but heck I loved programming. I didn't bother. The first language I taught was Pascal and Basic. Later I also taught COBOL (Complicated Old Boring and Obsolete Language), CP103 and dBase I was for a time Pascal unit leader for CDCS and later I transfered to the ADCS department.
I taught Advanced Programming (now AP207) and C and Assembly programming CA208.
