The Thunder guys just sent me some email, and it will be continued. WOOHOO!!!! Here's some tasty tidbits about plans for it:
- entity editor completely redone. Much nicer, IMO.
- vertex/edge/face manipulation is done, and tres cool.
- I am adding lightmaps support, transparent water, and what I believe to be the best leak-detection tool I've seen on ANY editor.
- going to add texture alignment/rotation from within the camera view.
- we are working on undo.
- and so on....

Be cool, Firenze

Past News

Just thought I'd update to say that I'm sick of no updates on this page. Lots has happened, even though I personally haven't been editing for awhile (started playin doom2 again; and am installing linux on an old puter). Quark has a new feature called diggers (they can also be called negative brushes). Pretty interesting. Check it out. Also, Thunder might be dead soon, if people don't start doing something. Email Steve Larsen if you don't want Thunder to die. On the BSP front, BSP.com has moved. Check out it's new home. And a new editor, EpiCenter has been released. the full version will be a full fledged quake editor, capable of editing maps, pak files, and other stuff. Well, that's about it I suppose. Be cool.

New QuakeC Site
Dissecting QuakeC is a new site devoted to creating an on-line, hyperlinked, QuakeC manual. New peices of the manual are being added daily. This site doesn't focus on QuakeC syntax, instead it focuses on the built-in functions and what they do. A very useful resource for beginners and experienced QuakeC programmers alike!

Help Wanted

QuakeLab: Multimedia - New Webmaster Wanted
loonyboi, webmaster of QuakeLab: Multimedia posted the following request asking for someone to take over as webmaster.

... unfortunately I am going to have to resign as head of this page. Read: I am not shutting this page down. I will continue to update for the time being. This page is the only place for Demo Movie tutorials, and sound editing information. I love this site, and want to keep it going.

However, my schedule simply doesn't allow me to continue to update it as often. I am looking for someone to take over the reigns as webmaster of QL:MM. I would like to continue to write articles for this page, on a semi frequent basis, but I simply cannot continue as is.

If your interested in becoming a beta tester, email me at tnt2@tir.com.

Quake2 DLL Site
WM Quake2 is a new site promising to be the authority on Quake 2 DLL's. Until more information is released on the way Quake2 is designed, with specific regard to progs.dll, WM_QUAKE2 will focus on answering questions that QuakeC programmers have about programming DLL's in general.

Continued Site Revamp
I changed the toolbar again to make room so I can add links to the new content. What? New Content? Yes, I have been adding content to this site "behind the scenes" (I haven't put a link to it yet). I also reorganized it a bit since I'll be covering all aspects of editing.

Things have also been kind of slow because I'm working on another Quake editing related project. That doesn't mean I'm going to turn QEA over to someone else, or close it down. As a matter of fact, the project is about 80% complete. So what is this project? Well, I plan to announcing it today or tommarow. Plucky, over at Quake Editing News already posted something about it (so if you are really interested in what it is, check it out). Before I'm going to say anymore, I'm going to go out and catch up on all the editing news I've missed out on lately..

June 25th, 12:11 PM EST - No real editing news yet today. I'm planning on doing more "behind the scenes" revamping for the web site. I'm doing all this to make the change to the new layout faster. I'll get around to updating the editor information page, and to posting those reviews, sometime soon :-).

I'm looking for a co-webmaster to help me run things around here. If your interested, email me. You should have a solid grasp on level editing concepts and be reliable.

Should I start making daily updates to this page, even if there is nothing important going on, just to let everyone know I'm still here? Email me your thoughts.

June 22nd, 1:38 PM EST - Well, I did away with the main page. It was kind of a waste of space! I actually have some editing related news today!

I emailed Jim Lowell about Thred's future, and here's what he had to say:

The "official" status of Thred is that there will be another version released. The "Jim Lowell" status is that Thred is dead. Jon hasn’t had the time to do any work on it in months. Unless Jon releases the source code and someone finishes it, which is very unlikely, I don’t think there will be another version of Thred.

This reply practically confirms what many of us have been thinking for a while now. Thred, for the most part, is dead.

In other news, The qED editing suite has been released. This suite of editing utilities includes the level editor qED, the latest version of the qME model editor (formerly QuakeME), and the qART texture/wad editor. For more information, check 3D Matrix.

June 22nd, 1:38 PM EST - I've updated the archives section with all of the past news that used to be on this page. That should reduce load time by just a bit. I'm going to update the main page with something useful, I might just make this news page the main page, I haven't figured it out yet. I'm also going to post those reviews today, but first, I'm going to update the editor info and files section. I'll have the redesigned QEA up by Tuesday at the latest. If you have any suggestions, email me.

June 15th, 11:00 AM EST - New management! Well......sort of. It's actually the old management back again, but I'm going to be doing a bunch of new things! First off, I plan on updating this site. The information is on the editor info page is very old and is in desperate need of updating. I've done reviews of the 4 editors that are, IMO, the best of the best. I'll be posting those as soon as I get them converted to html. I also have a tutorial of sorts for people who are interested in Quake editing. It includes links to all the tools you'll need, and reviews of each. It also includes a revised and updated version of the Quake Map Specs written for beginners. On top of that, I've included a beginners tips and tricks section.

Since there isn't much editing news anymore, this site is going to be heading in a differen't direction. It is going to become more of an editing resource. After I've updated everything and posted the reviews and the beginers tutorial, I'm going to totally revamp the website. Let's face it....it's in desperate need of a face lift. One of the things I'll be doing is adding an object gallery. Basically, this gallery will include all kinds of objects (furniture, lights, doors, traps, ect) in the map format so they can be used in all editors. If you have any objects you'd like to submit, zip them up and send them to here. Please include a short description of the object, your name, and your email address. If you don't want your name or email address to apear with the object when it's posted in the library, please let me know.

For news earlier than this, visit the QEA Archives.
