The AnatoleNET MACintosh Page

MacOSIf you didn't know it yet, I'm a Macintosh guy. I have worked on Macintosh computers for a very long time now, and know very much about them. The computer I work on at home is a Macintosh LC 475. Although it doesn't have the power and performance of a Power Macintosh, it's good enough for surfing on Internet and for working on school projects. All I really need is just a good hard drive and a fast modem to keep me happy. (Although, almost every single night, I dream for a Power Macintosh!) AnatoleNET was created and is being updated on a Macintosh.

I Have Mac OS 8 currently installed on our hard drive. As they say, it IS the best operating system for the Macintosh since 1984. Although it does not offer all what was promised for the original Mac OS 8 (that is what was previously code-named Copland, which was canceled,) it does in fact come somewhat close. The first noticeable change is the new 3D interface, which had been announced and previewed at least two years ago. All the other changes, like the cool spring-loaded folders, contextual-menus (at last for the Mac OS!), MULTITHREADING, which allows you finally to copy files / empty the trash in the background while you do other stuff, and a bunch of neat new functions and new stuff all make Mac OS 8, according to myself, the best operating system in the world.

One problem with Mac OS 8, I have to admit, is that it is very BIG, and that it only runs on 68040s, Power Macintoshes and clones. If you have an 68030 Mac or earlier, you are out of luck, and will have to content yourself with Mac OS System 7.x.
However, you can still take advantage of the new Platinum interface (Apple's official name for the new 3D windows and folders) using the cool shareware extension Aaron, which you can download at Greg Landweber's (one of the authors of the extension) web site. I used it before I bought Mac OS 8, and I can tell you that it is small, stable, and gives all your system windows the new platinum appearance and all your folders the new 3D look.
Oh, I almost forgot: there is also Kaleidoscope, a shareware Control Panel (co-written by the same guy) that gives you all what Aaron offers, plus even more window/folder customization. If you want to totally customize your desktop with different appearances, use Kaleidoscope! (It even works in Mac OS 8, in case you were wondering.)

Last, but not least, no "pro" Macintosh page can be complete without "trashing" the evil empire a little: you know who I'm talking about, MICROSOFT! The mega-software company seeking world domination who's life mission is to be (and STAY) number one in ANYTHING computer-related by eliminating all other competitors! If you want my advice, boycott Windows 98, do not use INTERNET EXPLORER (use Netscape instead) and support the small rebellion's fight against Microsoft!(*)

Note to all Window 95/NT/3.1/DOS/etc. users:

I have nothing against PCs. I have even used a PC on occasion, but I personally prefer the ease and feel of a Macintosh to any other computer. Some of you may say that the Macintosh is crazy, and that a PC is the way to go. If you feel that way, that is OK with me, although I disagree with you. I have used a Macintosh, I use a Macintosh, I like the Macintosh, and I hope to continue to use a Macintosh as long as I can. (But that does not mean that we can't be friends...!!) Even though AnatoleNET is a "MADE-ON-MAC" site, I wish for it to be open to everyone, should you be viewing it with a Mac or a PC.
