Sarah Elizabeth Osborn (Sanders)

Folks, Here is the next picture. It is Sarah Elizabeth Osborn (Sanders). She was known as Betty. She is your great great grandmother. She was married three times. Back then a man had to stay married to have someone to take care of the children and a woman had to stay married to have someone to feed the children. (I know, I know, this sounds sexist.) The couples also had a lot of children for "free labor" and to ensure that there was someone around to take care of them in their old age. Sarah's first husband was her sister's husband, a Wilburn. She married him after her sister died. I suspect that she was drafted to take care of her sister's children. When she married she inherited two children. She and Felix G. Wilburn, Jr. then had 5 children together before he was killed for fooling around with another man's wife. She then married Eli Lafayette Osborn. He was married previously and she inherited 9 children. She and Eli had 6 children; one of whom was Fannie Dulcenia Osborn, your great grandmother. Let's see, it appears that she had a hand in raising 22 children. I will try to be more accurate later. The reason that I say that is that several children died young. I seem to remember someone saying that they had two houses. Later she married a Lemuel Jones. This must have been late in life because I have no record of any children or any previous Jones children. That's all for now. More later. UB

Jones billy

William Thomas (Billie) Jones

When I went to Arkansas in October to help Jim and Helen go through mother's stuff, I brought back a bunch of family pictures. I now have a lot of them scanned in and I thought that I would share them with the rest of the family. Many years ago, I kept after mother until she wrote the names of the people on the photos, so I do know who they are for sure. I plan to send each picture in a separate e-mail so it won't clog up your e-mail too much. Probably one or two in any one day. If anyone doesn't want to receive the pictures, send e-mail and I will take you off of the mailing list. If you have trouble opening the pictures, ask Jim Tom. He knows more about Windoze machines than I do. I will describe the relationship in reference to Laura's, Mary's, Sandra's and Robert's generation. Jim knock off one great or grand and for the grand neices and nephews, add one great. Here's the first one. The man is your great great grandfather, William Thomas (Billie) Jones. The woman is a step great great grandmother, Ella Jones. Your real great great grandmother was Mary Frances (Pony) Martin. I haven't seen a picture of her. I assume that the house in the background is their farmhouse, which I believe was south of Western Grove, AR. UB

Attached is a picture of your great grandfather Jones and the first four of your great uncles and great aunts. This picture was probably taken in about 1909 or 1910 because your grandmother appears to be about 2 to 3 years old. From left to right is your great uncle Earl, your grandmother Edith, your great grandfather James Ira (Jimmie) Jones, your great aunt Nona and your great uncle Carl (Blue). Your great uncle Elmo was not born until 1914. More later UB

It appears that your grandmother played basketball when she was in high school. Attached is a picture of her team. Which one is your grandmother?
