Some time ago I was talking with my sister about what
we would do when we retired from the fast life. A thought came out of that
conversation. Why not grow trees for the next 30 years and harvest them
when we retire? Sound like a risk to some folks, but what is a 401K plan?
So what trees should we grow? It seems that Black walnut is a good candidate.
First because we have the tree to start with and second because the boards
cost so much at the lumber store. So how do we go about it?
Planting:
After a bit of researchI found that you simply need to
gather the Walnut pods in the fall and plant them. I gathered 15 pods and
planted them on 11/2/97. The pods had been on the ground for some time.
Some were still green. Some were dark brown.
