What is a Talker?

 A talker is basically a place on the Internet where people gather to chat. It is similar to the IRC but there are more commands to play with and it is not as structured as the IRC. A talker basically is a "virtual community" with a unique theme to it. It is composed of many rooms for which users can go to hold conversations (see the Map of Acadia). People new to talkers may feel a little disoriented when they enter their first talker. However, there is no need to worry as usually there are many people willing to give a helpful hand. : )

How do I connect to a Talker?

What you will need

Most Internet providers will allow you to Telnet so you don't have to worry much about the first item. The second item (a telnet program) may require you to search around the Net a bit to find one that you like. If you know a friend who may have a telnet program it may be wise to ask them if you can have a copy. Once you have the Telnet program installed and are ready to connect all you have to do is enter the ADDRESS and PORT of the talker you want to connect to into the proper places and tell the program to connect. : )

PORT: 4321

Some Terms and Acronyms used in Talkers

 Terms
Wizard - Also known by other names depending on the talker. Are basically people who help maintain order in the talkers. They have the ability to promote, demote, or even kick a user out of the talker.
Re - Basically mean Hi again.
Lag - When you type something and you don't see it on your screen for a period of time due to traffic on the Internet or a slow server. Lag is hated by everyone in talkers. : )

AFK - Away From Keyboard
TTYL - Talk To You Later		 PPL - People
LOL - Laugh Out Loud
ROFL - Rolling On the Floor Laughing
