Downloading FreeCD
To download FreeCD, select the proper version for your operating system below:

WINDOWS 95, WINDOWS 98, or WINDOWS NT 4:

WINDOWS 3.x or WINDOWS NT 3.5x: Note: FreeCD version 1.91 is currently available for Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0 only - but when version 2.0 is released, a Windows 3.x / NT 3.5x version will also be made available (so hang in there!).

Installation
To install FreeCD or CD Player on your computer, simply uncompress the ZIP file you just downloaded (FCDv191.ZIP or CD16v11.ZIP) into the folder of your choice - just remember where you put it!  To run the program, just double-click the EXE file (FREECD.EXE or CDPLAYER.EXE, respectively), or create an icon using the steps below.

WINDOWS 95, WINDOWS 98, or WINDOWS NT 4: To create a shortcut for FreeCD on your Desktop:

  1. Open Windows Explorer and locate the file FREECD.EXE in the folder where you unzipped FCDv191.ZIP.  If you don't know where you put it, use the Find Files or equivalent command under the Start menu.
  2. Right-click the file and drag it onto your Desktop.
  3. On the pop-up menu that appears, select "Create shortcut(s) here". To rename the icon, select it, press F2, type a new name, and press Enter.
  4. Double-click the new shortcut to run FreeCD.
WINDOWS 3.x or WINDOWS NT 3.5x: To create an icon for CD Player in Program Manager:
  1. Select the program group you'd like to add the icon to.
  2. Click on the File menu and select New.  In the box that pops up, select Program Item and click OK.
  3. In the next box that pops up, type "CD Player" for the Description.  For Command Line, type the path to the EXE file, for example, C:\WINDOWS\CDPLAYER.EXE.  If you're not sure where you unzipped the file you downloaded, click the Browse button to search your hard drive.  You may also have to click Change Icon to select the new icon's appearance.
  4. Double-click the new icon to run CD Player.
You'll have to forgive my rusty instructions for Windows 3.x / NT 3.5x - it's been quite some time since I've used either.  You may want to check out the Windows help system or read your manual for more information on file management and creating icons/shortcuts.

Regardless, good luck installing and using FreeCD (or CD Player) - I hope you find it as useful as I do!  If you have any questions or problems, be sure to e-mail me.
