Hardware Bottomfeeders
My current recomendations,
ExpertColor S3 virge GX/2
While the 3D on this card is nothing to write home about, the 2D is excelent. It is a 4 meg AGP card with TV-out. Unlike other cheap Video cards, it can output the TV-out display and monitor display at the same time. This card is Super 7 friendly and easy to set up. An excelent partner for a system using a Voodoo 3D accelerator.
Creative Voodoo 2
These are getting really cheap now that the Voodoo 3's are out. They usualy go for $80.00 or less at E-Bay and I recently ordered a refurbished one from www.soundblaster.com for the paltry sum of $49.95.
With a AMD K6/2-300 this card can run Quake 2 at around 35FPS. With a K6/2-450 overclocked to 500mhz , I get frame rates approaching 90FPS. This is a full legnth card so pick your motherboard carefully.
Yamaha 16 bit ISA
I have found this card to be every bit as good as a SoundBlaster 16 for about half the price. It is full duplex, has a decent built in amp, easy drivers and software that is superior to what Creative offers with their renound SoundBlaster 16. These cards can often be found for less than $15.00.
This is the new AMD K7 CPU. Definately not a bottomfeeding thing but I just had to show you. Someday, mere mortals will be able to afford one of these.
