The Lake
The lake, esssential a 10 square mile
pond with a depth of one hundred feet, harbors a variety of life, thus
emulating natural lake ecosystems. The one exception to this rule
will be the abundance of edible freshwater fish and the lack of their natural
predators. Humans will fill the role of predator by harvesting species
such as bass or catfish, both for sustenance and to prevent overpopulation,
thereby maintaining the delicate balance of producers, consumers, and decomposers.
The catfish will also filter the water from excess algae, thus preventing
the lake from eutrophication. The water, being able to absorb excess
carbon dioxide, will serve as a backup system of climatic regulation in
case the primary system fails (see logistics section).
Water is directly drawn from the lake and filtered for drinking.
