December in New York City (get a rope)

I had applied for tickets to David Letterman back in February of 1998, and when I finally got the tickets they were for a time in August when I couldn't go. So I called them and got newer tickets for December 29th. When the day arrived, four of us got on a train and went to New York City.

We saw Dave, and then Laura and I went and saw the Radio City Rockettes Christmas show. We spent the night at the Helmsley Middletowne, and the next day sightseeing before we all went home.

It was cold, and he was made of metal. This guy hangs out on the south side of Chase Manhattan, and is called "Taxi!". (No, I dunno where the name came from.) He was nice enough to pose with me. (You can't see my other hand, you know. Heh, heh, heh.)

They're married forever...she's an attorney, you know.Dave and Julie went with us. We're sitting in the Waiting Area (not a room, mind you, just an area) at New York's Pennsylvania Station, waiting for our train back to Boston. Ain't they a cute couple? (Happy Anniversary, the two of you.)

I kept humming Laura was my guardian while I was in New York City. (Actually, she puts up with me quite a bit. We're having her checked for mental health problems.) In my own defense, I had about four Coors Lights before I got to the Waiting Area, so I was having a great time in this picture.

The train trip was about five hours each way. That seems like a lot, but when you figure that the train station in Boston is about two blocks from my apartment, and by the time we had gone to the airport, gotten checked in, boarded the plane, flown to New York City, gotten luggage, and managed our way back into New York City, the time was about the same. (And the train was fun, in its own little way.)
