02.25.05     STREEEEEEETCH
it's been a long day, though i sometimes have trouble remembering what it was filled with. i'm feeling beat-down and tired. it's also a good day, because sam brown's exploding dog book has arrived. actually, it arrived yesterday, delivered to one of those mailbox-hive structures. it was small enough for the postman to get in, but too big for me to get out. i had to leave a note for the postman and he brought it to my house.

it is also a good day because on sunday, it will be mr. andrew's birthday. in anticipation of the celebration day, today he will get the organic beef steaks i ordered. yes, beef. 1. he likes beef, 2. i like to feed people beef (genetic fung disorder), 3. i like to support canadian and/or organic farmers, 4. nothing says you care like the gift of nourishment.

02.24.05     OVERDUE
it's been a variable month. on tuesday, i kept getting the same one all day (there are three), so naturally i felt an affinity towards it. we had the following conversation at the end of the day:
j: how was your day?
e: oh, up and down.

kevin and i are moving this weekend. he's in germany, so that means i'm freaking out alone. nothing is going right. i'm trying to be serene, but it's not working.

it's true that writing is a muscle. the more you use it, the more you stretch it, the easier it gets. i'm going to try to do this every day. i also resolve to be more active, to make puff pastry, and to eat more casseroles.

01.26.05     POOP
yesterday, kevin told me that the little pop-up ad window that comes up with geocities contains related ads; they were all about philip glass. i'm curious about what comes up for 'poop'.

kevin thinks i'm poop-fixated. it's true! i think it's very entertaining. say it out loud, "poop!".

unrelated to poop, it's our first anniversary today. 365 days since we confessed (over the internet) to having feelings for one another, and then meeting up at a tim horton's parking lot at midnight to make out during a blizzard.

01.09.05     PHILIP GLASS
i'm listening to philip glass again. there's something about his music that makes you feel that you don't really belong in the normal world. that if you get his music, then you're one of those lost people that ought to be in the misty fog-world of undercurrents and shapeless ideas, thoughts, theories -- that we're made of less solid stuff than other people. it's a secret message of both warning and hope: we don't belong but we're not alone.

this music makes me feel like drowning myself as an escape. if i hold my breath long enough, light as thick as honey will come pouring out of my eyes and mouth.

01.01.05     HAPPY NEW YEAR
for 2005, i wish that you have someone to kiss at the stroke of midnight every night, that you don't step in dog poop, and that you get a little bit closer to your destiny.

12.29.04     SUPER-POWERS
over a holiday dinner, we were discussing what super-power we would want the most.

shallen and tif, being the most pacifist and would never think of using their powers for evil, wanted to talk to animals and to make people love each other, respectively.

jerry wanted to be telepathic, and yollanda wanted to be invisible.

ted couldn't decide, and so got saddled with various idea cast-offs such as porn-o (power to make people make porn), i-don't-know-o (power to make people dumb), and revolution-o (power to cause a revolution).

i, of course, having discussed this with tahir years before (what else do science and comic book nerds talk about?), had long ago decided to be stuff-o, which is pretty much like magneto only my power would extend to matter with weak electromagnetic fields -- pretty much everything: paper, air, rocks, etc.

bryan, one-upping everyone else, was steal-o: the power to permanently steal everyone else's power. but what happens when no one has a super power?

12.21.04     JESUS IS THE REASON
kevin and i had our christmas early; he's heading out to his parents' on wednesday. out of all the presents i gave him (tso tickets, douglas coupland novel, "chewie is my co-pilot" t-shirt, grey hand-knit scarf), he liked the scarf the most. this surprised me. i thought he'd find it kitschy and scratchy, but he thought it soft and warm and squooshy. he even liked the 'k' i embroidered on it.

from him, i got a lovely vintage brooch, lemony snicket's "a series of unfortunate events", an ugly doll, and ... a print gocco!! the problem is deciding what i want to try first.

best gift of all, of course, is kevin.

12.15.04     ANALOGY

the girls at my office like their christmas decorations like southern girls like their hair: big, bold, and tacky.

TAUTOLOGY
if i propose a solution and you say, "it's not going to work", and then i draw you a diagram to show you why it would work, you MUST present me with a reason why it won't work instead of simply and repeatedly insisting that it won't. I'M PART VULCAN: I NEED LOGIC!

12.14.04     IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS
my christmas shopping has been done for a while now, all due to the wonderful wonder that is online shopping. my suggestions for torontonians who won't brave the crowds & cold:
  • indigo/chapters; they have a GTA Quick Ship option for you last-minute-ers
  • js bonbons makes beautiful chocolates
  • dufflet, the queen of cake, has gift certificates
  • national ballet, toronto symphony orchestra, canadian opera company
  • japanese paper place now offers online and mail order

12.09.04     YOU ARE SLEEPING, YOU DO NOT WANT TO BELIEVE
i googled "a superior refreshment!". this is what i got:
It's what makes our drinks unique. Unlock the sediment for superior refreshment. Whatever the weather, the forecast is looking good! Interested to know? ...
    www.fentimans.com/tasting.asp
everyone knows that coffee is the superior refreshment of choice.
    11.21.04
kevin and i watched the CSI episode about the guy who was caught burying corpses. in the end, the guilty brother walked free while the innocent brother committed suicide (with his TEETH!!).
then we watched Law & Order: SVU, at first because shannyn sossamon was in it and later because it was interesting - emotionally unstable girl accuses prof of rape, but he said she got upset when he said she couldn't stay overnight. and right after they say, "we find the defendent...", it cuts to the credits!
kevin: it's a bad day for justice on late night television.

    11.17.04    I SEE LONDON
kevin and i went to the u.k. for pete's wedding over the weekend. we spent most of the time in bridgnorth, shropshire: beautiful british countryside. sunil kept saying how it was too british, and it was. it could've been a set, complete with the LOTR shire theme song.

the wedding was great. there was a pig roast and ceilidh dancing, and all of this was held in a manor decorated with suits of armour and ornate fireplaces. it was there that i got told the best bad joke ever:

what do you call a deer with no eyes?
    no eye deer.

    11.01.04    TOP SECRET
sometime last week, the girls at work cornered me.
    m:you've lost weight!
    me:no, i haven't.
r:yes, you have. look at you!
    me:no, really, i haven't.
m:she's doing something and not telling us.
r:c'mon, tell us, what have you been doing?
me:okaaay... i went to costco and bought a box of ice cream cones. i've been eating at least one every day for the past week.
there is no justice in this world.
