All comments about this story can be sent to supereub@lava.net Part Two ******** Suddenly, Remy was not at the grassy area anymore, but back at the side alley. He had just chopped one of the fallen thugs on the throat, leaving him out of breath. He quickly stood up, looking around for the last attacker. Then, it happened again. BANG! Remy looked at his blood stain, he fell to his knees. And lay prone on the pavement. He saw the lady prostitute cursing at the leader. But this time, he saw what happened... "Why'd ya shoot him Angelo?!" the woman yelled. "The asshole got both of them, what was I supposed to do?!" the leader replied angrily as he put the gun back under his jacket. Suddenly, a figure from across the street spotted the two. "Hey you!" The leader and the woman ran down the street. The stranger ran across the street. He headed towards Remy and tossed him on his back. "Oh my Lord, what happened here?" "D...D...Dey shot me, get h...help." he whispered with his last remaining breaths. Two more strangers gathered around Remy. The original stranger took off his coat and wrapped it around his stomach. He turned towards one of the other men. "GET HELP NOW!!!" Minutes later, he could see the Ambulance drive up a few minutes later. The paramedics helped him off the ground and placed him carefully on the stretcher. Rushing him to the vehicle. *** Remy woke up, sweating and shivering. He couldn't get over the weird vision he had. (Wat' was dat?) Against his best intention, he drifted back to sleep. Now however, he had dreamed of a much more pleasant dream. He could hear the sound of harmonious music playing in the background, whistling in the air. When he woke again, it had been morning. The fire was out, from the sight of the twigs, probably for several hours now. The sun was out and mist was rising off the ground. Some alert watcher he had been! But there was something strange. He had dreamed of music. Now he was wide wake, but he still heard that music. A soft, lilting melody was drifting to him. Remy shook his head, realizing that this was no dream. Someone was playing nearby! "Who dat?!" he shouted and immediately wished he hadn't. He should have kept quiet until he knew about the other person. Now he gave himself away. But then again, he was sitting out in the open. The music stopped. (Dis is not good.) Remy quickly got up, his muscles felt tight, but he had no time to stretch them just yet. Remy searched around, and found some movement from behind a thicket of bushes. He creeped his way over, ready to attack, when he burst through the bush, uttering a harsh cry, so as to surprise the other and hopefully scare it away. Suddenly, Remy had crashed chest to chest with a gorgeous girl. She screamed and fell on the ground, her bright purple skirt spreading to show her lovely legs. Remy stepped back. "Calm down chere! I ain't goin' to attack you!" She had not heard him but continued to scream. He felt terrible. He extended his hand to her, she stopped screaming. "Hope I didn't scare you too bad." he said to her. She stared at him. "ERIK! ERIK! HELP!" she screamed once again. Startled, Remy retreated. He was embarrassed about almost attacking the girl, but alert for danger. It had been a girl that had gotten him in trouble two nights ago, what made this situation so different? With his peripheral vision he noticed movement about a hundred feet up the road. He whirled. Without warning, he heard sudden burst of gun shots. (Mon dieu. Not again!) Remy quickly hid behind a tree. He grabbed his bike key, kinetically charged it, and threw it towards the attacker. A large explosion followed. "Take dat." he muttered. Suddenly his neck was caught by a rope. His hands came up reflexively, grabbing it before it tightened further, but the rope was already pulling hard. His head was jerked back, and he was hauled off his feet. For a moment, he swung wildly, his feet pedaling air, his hands trying desperately to keep breathing. Then his back smacked into the truck of a tree. After a few moments, he heard some footsteps. He gasped for air. (Gotta get some air in before I suffocate.) he thought as he struggled some more. A stranger came up to him. A fairly tall man with a short black beard and a rather built body. The stranger grabbed a hunting knife from a sheathe attached to his leg and quickly sliced the upper part of the rope. Remy fell on the ground. THUD! He quickly pulled the rope from his neck. He huffed and puffed for a breath of air. Once he regained his breath, he scrambled to his feet. The stranger bowed his head. "Hello!" the stranger said. "Glad I didn't kill you. The name is Jered Walker. When I heard Sophie scream I thought she was being attacked, and I'm afraid I acted without looking. I shouldn't have, she's a nymph, and they tend to be jumpy when there's no reason." he stepped towards Remy. "Are you all right?" Remy stood aghast. "Oui." Jered smiled. "Forgive Sophie, she didn't know you were a friendly traveler." Remy chuckled. "It my fault homme. I kind of spooked her while she wat' playin' her music." he replied as he touched his forehead lightly, noticing that their was a bruise. "I see you are in pain. The Forest Dryads can help with that." Jered turned. "Sophie, this person is not a danger to you. See if you can heal his head." (Forest Dryads? Nymphs? Did I die and fall in de world of fairy tales?) Remy thought as the girl approached him timidly, her face showed she did not trust the cajun. She placed her cool right hand on his forehead, and immediately he could feel the sting of his bruise easing and his headache fading. She put her left hand on his neck, and his throat eased. (Dis is like magic!) Magic? Here he was in a strange land, where trees could talk, trees grew in different colors, and Forest Dryads roamed the roads. What was so odd about magic? "Uh, where am I?" he asked, bewildered, hoping his voice wouldn't spook the girl again. Her touch wa wonderful! Already his voice was improved, as the power of her healing hand spread down through his throat. Jered looked at him strangely. "You are not from this area?" "I don't think I'm from dis planet! Incredible as it sounds, I talked to a tree and it told me I wat' on Aberlie." Remy didn't mention that it seemed just as unlikely that he should be talking to a traveler and a mythical nymph. "Talking to a tree is not unusual, thought it is frustrating," Jered said "You are, however, in Aberlie, the source of magic in the entire earth." Remy froze. "Dis is earth?" he said, his voice seemed pleased. "Of course!" "Den what am I doing here? In Aberlie?" Remy cried desperately. The nymph flinched, but did not remove her hands, to his relief. He had been careful how he spoke all this time, he did not want to disturb her. "Perhaps if you told me how you arrived, we can find out why you are here." Jered said. "I'm really not sure. I remember fighting t'ree men in a side alley when I was shot by one of dem bastards. Den I wake up by the ocean in dis place. I talked to Wil-Tree, and he told me to follow de road to the Tuntar Empire. I spend de night in de wilderness, and now I'm here." Remy explained. "Where did you get shot?" Jered asked. "New York. In de United States." Remy replied. "United States? I am unfamiliar with the place." Remy had remembered that Wil-Tree had not known what or where New York is. Now this guy doesn't know where the United States is. He quit his effort in convincing Jered that there was a United States. Slowly, Remy put the clues together. "So you're headed towards the Tuntar Empire? I can aid you to the Empire, since I am more familiar with these parts than yourself." Jered proposed. "Dat sounds good mon ami." "Great! But before we leave, we shall feast, if your head is well now." Remy felt his head again. He was amazed at how nicely it healed. "It worked like a charm mon ami." "Yes, of course. Sophie , fix a meal four our visitor." Jered signaled Sophie towards the area behind a thicket of bushes. Then he looked puzzled. "I'm sorry, what is our name?" "Remy LeBeau. Uh--leave?" "Yes, very soon friend." Jered put his arm around Remy's shoulder and patted him on the back. "Relax friend. We shall eat a marvelous and well prepared meal before out journey to Tuntar. Come friend." Remy rolled his eyes. "Whatever you say homme." END OF PART TWO.
