They shall grow not old,
As we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
And in the morning
We will remember them.

THE FLOWERS OF THE FOREST

The famous poem 'The Flowers Of The Forest' was written in the mid - 18th century to commemorate the battle of Flodden in 1513. It was made in to a very haunting pipe tune which is traditionally played at military funerals. Its final verse goes -

'The flowers of the forest that
fought aye the foremost,
The prime o' our land now lie
cauld in the clay.
We'll hear nae mair liltin' at
our yowe-milkin',
Women and bairns are dowie
and wae;
Sighin' and moanin' on ilka
green loanin',
The flowers of the forest are a ,
wede away.'
