The Black Flash is 5-inch scale. It's a weird mix of parts, so here goes. The arms, legs, and "crotch" piece are from the second TB Vulture (the "old man" one). The upper torso is from a TB Sneak Attack Hobgoblin. Luckily, both figs had waist articulation and ball-jointed shoulders, so it was easy to mate the parts together. I did swap the hands out with a TB Jack O'Lantern (from the Spidey assortment as well) and added little claws from Sculpey. I did fill in some of the Vulture details with glue to make it look a little more like the BF.
The head is a bizarre mix. The main part is from a Men in Black Edgar. I cut off the jaw and trimmed down the nose and lower face. Then I put a nose and mouth from a rubber skull from Halloween on to make the skull-like nose and mouth. The original mouth was closed, so I had to redo that to be open. I then filled it in with Sculpey, added some lines for that wrinkled look on the face, and made the head covering and ear pieces from Sculpey. The "wings" on the head were cut from a 3x5 card.
I thought this was a good combination of body parts to get that thinner build with elongated limbs but some muscle. He can be posed in a more hunched-over stance, which the new pics will show, so it will look more like the comic. And I wanted the open mouth like the comic because all the other ones I've seen on the web had a closed mouth, and I wanted him as close to the real deal as possible.
I painted him with a mix of enamels and acrylics. One of the last things I did was a dark grey wash on the face and especially the teeth to give them some individual definition and age. The emblem was printed out on a computer and painted (and took several tries because it is so dang small!).
The only things left to do are to (1) spray him with
Dulcote to protect him and (2) add the "saliva" goo
between the upper and lower teeth. I'm gonna use a
"booger" of rubber cement for the slime.
