When I first discovered this feature of Evansville I was (oddly enough) reminded of Greece. Chania Harbor on the island of Crete to be precise. There in classic mediteranean fashion you can sit at tables by the walkway and watch the people pass as you eat and drink. In Evansville, they have blocked several blocks of Main Street off from regular traffic, (trolley cars carry passengers along the streets) and made it into a sort of urban parkway/outdoor mall. In the evening with the humidity from the nearbye bend of the Ohio River where the Casino Aztar riverboat is parked the heat and humidity and general atmosphere are reminiscent of my memories of the Mediteranean. Just like when I was in the Med in the Navy, though, I don't have enough time or money to really enjoy it. :-)

The above view show the start of the walkway at 2nd and main. A block or two from the old post office and Riverside where the Casino Aztar complex is located. The next few photos show a couple of the businesses, an antique store, with an old stone lion in front, and one of the clubs and bars along the way.

Here you can see some of the benches and scenic buildings.

The wooden fence surrounds the outdoor tables of Angelo's an italian restaurant with some kind of night club underneath. How does that work? The restaurant closes and the nightclub opens. How does anyone get into the nightclub? Then four studies of one of the fountains along the walkway.

The flower bed is at the corner of a small park with benches and a gazebo. Across the intersection about half a block down the street is a brewpub called Firkins.
