Making clocks-
Items you will need:
A paper plate
A paper fastener
Crayons or something to draw with
A pair of scissors
Cardboard to make hands
Hole punch
A ruler
Step 1:
Have the students draw a light cross that intersects
the
center of the top-side of the
paper plate.
Have the students write numbers on the same side of
the
paper
plate, using the cross as a guide, for example 3, 6,
9, and 12 at
the ends of the cross. This will be their clock face.
Allow them to decorate their clock faces as they wish.
Tell them to be creative.
Step 2:
Have students draw lines on a piece of cardboard as
shown
in the diagram, forming wedges, rectangles, or circles.
Long
wedges should be half the diameter of the bottom of the
paper
plate, short wedges two-thirds. These pieces will be
the
big
and little hands.
Cut the "hands" from the cardboard. Make sure that
each
student
has a long hand and a shorthand. Use the paper punch
to make
a hole in the large end of each hand.
Step 3: Have students assemble the pieces.
The clocks can be assigned as homework to save class
time.
The clocks can be used for pair or group practice.
Also, the teacher may use them as team or whole class
evaluation.
