--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have written you before and have your works from the net. I
appreciate all your work you have done on the Davis families.
Last week I found on the net something that interest me. The Enoch
family has been in our family names and our John Davis b. 1757/8 that I
am still trying to place, had a dau. that m. John Devorss. She named a
child Enoch and I have collected all the Enoch families I could from the
net. I deeply believe our John is from James Davis b. 1705 and m.
Elinor both buried in Tanglewood Park, Forsyth Co. Winston-Salem, NC.
Their dau. Mary m. an Enoch and this is where our family came up with
the name. The John in this family could be ours but his children mostly
was b. in 1735-30. Yes, I know Richard had a John but that is not the
correct date for our John. You state Richard and Miss Ross had a John
and that he stayed in VA near Berryville, Milton Valley. Please check
him out for his birth. Richard d. in 1800. Wm. m. Rachel, he d. 4
Sept. 1833 could be or John's brother for he named a child Enoch b. 1740
- 1830 wife Eliz. Hawkins.

Our John and his wife, which we do not know, had: James which we came
from m. to Margaret Moore; Wm. John; Mila, Nancy, Sarah, Dorothy m.
Sinclair, Eliz m. Christopher Cummins, Noami m. Edward Ansley in 1788
2nd m. Henry Alexander then 3rd Arthur Bland in TN. Noami named a child
Enoch and father was Edward Ansley. Maybe two more children.
(Not ours)
John Davis b. 1754 Loudoun VA, died 12 Sept 1785 m. Sarah b. 1758 son of
Thomas and Eliz. Minor, Loudoun VA. Thomas's father was John Davis b.
1687 Penn.
UKN mother, John's father was David Davis b. abt 1660 m. Margaret Evans

I've been told to check out Terry as the last name for (our) John's
wife, Thomas Terry lived near. The last name Henson was used lots in our
family and we wonder where it came from.

Isaac had a son b. 1757 Loudoun VA. but his son died in 1778 and did not
get a pension. This was Isaac that had a son b. 1754 named John died of
small pox. Rose and Harriet lived with Nancy and John in 1820 census.
and David's father was Richard Davis UKN mother.
Another Isaac, Gloucester VA m. Anne Gayle 27 Feb. 1750 Kingston Parish,
Episcopal Church had son John b. 21 Aug 1757, Thomas b. 1762 m. Frances
Simmons, son Isaac bapt 29 June 1766 Gloucester Co. VA.

Notes for WILLIAM DAVIS:
William Davis was a Revolutionary War soldier, perhaps the same as the William Davis who applied for pension money in Fleming Co., Ky. in 1818 & 1819, giving his age as 60. This Davis family would appear to be Scots-Irish, early mixed with Indian. Gen. John Sevier (governor of Tennessee, 1796-1801) listed "Davis" as a prominent Chickamauga chief. On William Davis' tombstone in Proctor Cemetery, Maynards Cove, Jackson Co., Ala. is: Alabama Pvt Lindsy's Va Regt. Rev. War. William Davis lived to be 95.

Notes for JEREMIAH PROCTOR:
The Family Bible of Jeremiah Proctor was blown away in the storm that struck Jackson County, Alabama in the year 1932. Some leaves were saved. Jeremiah Proctor was a soldier in the War of 1812 and seems to have moved to Alabama after the war. Both the Proctors and Coopers came from Montgomery Co., Kentucky, according to the Jackson County genealogies. Around 1800 Jeremiah was living nearby his father Micajah in eastern Kentucky, probably in what became Garrard Co. They are both listed on the tax rolls 1792-1801. Proctor is a well-known Cherokee name. "The Last Cherokee Warrior" was William Proctor in Indian Territory, 1850s. Proctor is probably originally an English name (Isle of Wight?), through the Latin. It means "prior" or "overseer." Jeremiah Proctor is listed in the Jackson Co., Ala. census of 1830, p. 91. He died in 1839.
