AMT is now Illegal - What is AMT? - first appeared on www.disinfo.com on 21/07/2003

AMT (or Alpha-methyltryptamine), Not much is known about it other than the fact it is now illegal.

What I (and a few others) do know is that nobody really knows that much about it, as it is classifed as a "research chemical" - ie, very few scientific studies have been done on it, and not that much is known, so you are really taking a big step into the "unknown" by trying it, all in all you are quite literally turning yourself into a lab rat.

No one knows about long term effects etc. So if you are asking yourself if it is a safe drug, the answer is a resounding NO - cause no one really knows what the Hell it can do, either in the short or long term (and if I was going to take a research chemical my own choice were it available would be 2c-t-7.)

What is known about the effects is that has milder effect than E with a little more visuals (when you close your eyes), it has a similar, though lesser empathic effect on a person, and as associated with most empathogens, the associated mood lift. Also as is quite common with empathogens an increased appreciation of music tends to come with the territory. It seems to have similar effects to some amphetimines, ie. restlessness, dialated pupils, and blurred vision.

It, as with most sythesised chemicals does have a rep for causing vomiting, can give you "the fear" ie anxiety and/or tension (including very real muscle tension and cramping) in sombunall (some but not all) users and lasts at the longest 8 hours (if you have ever taken any hallucinogens you will know that time is very subjective and 8 hours can be a very very very long time.

The legal status is, of course, illegal, as the DEA have temporarily placed it on schedule 1 of its banned chemicals pending review and a permanent legal status to be implemented.

A common dose of AMT seems to be between 20 and 40 mg's but since it is a research chemical little is known about its potential to overdose, and since it can take quite a long time to come up there is a risk of overdosing by redose (damn this shit aint working, im gonna take some more).

Anyways, that's about all I know, as some of the more interesting drugs that I would like to try are not available here in Ireland.

As a post script, Dr. Alexander Shulgin the "stepfather of MDMA" (not the inventor that was done by a company called MERK in 1913)and about 40 other popular "street drugs" has an

online forum where he can be asked questions about the drugs that he invented (2c-t-7, MDMA (e), MDA and many others) and other drugs he did not. He is rightly, quite proud of inventing these drugs (unlike Dr. Albert Hoffman who invented LSD(lysergic acid dythelidimide), I always like to compare the two books each author wrote, Hoffmans book about LSD is called "LSD my problem child" and Shulgins is called "Phenethylamines I have known and loved" heh, seems Hoffman has a bit of a guilt complex going on...) and seems to want to encourage education and responsible usage of Phenethylamines and hallucinogens or psychoactive (whatever you want to call them).
