THE ATTIC OF YOUR MIND
by
Margaret Marr

You said you needed time
So, I gave you time
Until the evening shadows
Of life grew long. You said you needed space
So, I gave you space
Enough to cover a vast
Open meadow. You said you wanted to be "just" friends
So, I placed you in another part of my heart
And felt the side I took you from
Bleed bitter tears of sorrow. Now you never come around
And I feel like a toy you've
Grown tired of and banished
To the attic of your mind.
