At Work

The  polymer dolls on this page have been sculpted of cernit or sculpty. The artist   uses a ball of foil or a styrofoam ball as a base and sculpts the head over it.  She uses a locline armature and sculpts the limbs on to it. The polymer pieces are then baked and painted.  The body  and the clothes are then made . The doll is then assembled and dressed.

The porcelain dolls are sculpted from clay (preferably porcelain clay)and then the artist makes a mold of plaster from the sculpted piece. In the plaster molds she pours liquid porcelain. The parts are removed from the molds, cleaned and fired in a kiln. The pieces are then sanded, painted and fired. Usually more than one paint firing is done. A cloth body and clothes are then made and the doll is assembled.

All of the dolls are made by Sandi Sutton Martinho from the original sculpture to the finished product, including clothes and molds. All of the dolls have glass eyes and most have armature. They are the property of S S M Designs and may not be reproduced without permission from the artist
