POEM - I Was A Man

I was a man
I was a man who never really understood,
What was being asked of me from day to day
Going through the motions never looking far and wide
Never knowing what the right words are to say
Now, now I find
I have, have to make the time
No excuses left to me
I’m not blind
I have to see
I am the man I need to be
Today
There was a time when all the things I thought I knew
Were wrapped and tied so very easily
In all of the days and nights I traveled on a way
The obvious was what I always failed to see
And now
The light shines
Shows me what I need to see
It brightens all around
And lets me be just me
I walked a path littered by the pains of pasts
Never sure the next step I should take
Knowing all the while behind the silly mask I wore
The person walking was nothing but a fake
There comes a time
A time we face ourselves
And realize what we can be
I faced the time
Saw the demon looking back
The face I saw there was me
Now, now I find
I have, have to make the time
No excuses left to me
I’m not blind
I have to see
I am the man I need to be
Today
Now I see the door and stepping through with all my heart
I do not know the things that may await
But into this place I go eyes are open spirits high
It’s with joy in my heart I seek my fate
