Not Just A Memory

I never knew you but I've learned a part of who you are
From the ones who held you close, you were a shooting star
Though I never got to see you laugh or grow into a man
From the ones you touched so deep I feel as if I can
I never got to see you play or reach up into the sky
Never saw the smile, I hear, could brighten any eye
Though I never saw these things or touched a part of you
I feel your touch just the same from all the things you'd do
The ones you left behind so fast they feel you every day
And it's from them I've come to know from what they have to say
Taken in so quick a rush it seems like such a waste
You had so much to offer us why'd you go in such a haste
But then I stop my silent musings and make a little pact
In the short time you were here you left your mark in fact
Is shows in the hearts you left behind in the ones you really touch
And reaching out thereafter in others to you can mean so much
Angels now provide your songs and help you rest your head
So many things were left undone and more were never said
Wherever you are out there there's something I have to say
Thank you lad for who you were and who you are today
