Fannin Building

Belleville Street at Government Street
Department of Public Works
1967

The Fannin Building contains the storage and studying departments of the Royal British Columbia Museum, it was named after John Fannin the first curator of the museum in 1886. The north facade facing the causeway and the inner-harbour has six double height glass walled galeries. The elevetor shaft pokes out of the north-east corner and above the roof line of the rest of the building, which has wrap around windows and stone. The museum consists of the entrance lobby (1996), Exhibition Hall (1967), Fannin Building (1967), National Geographic IMAX Theatre (1998), and the sunken British Columbia Archives Building (1967).

The photo below (ca. 1980) shows a portion of Heritage Square before it was built over.
