Talani Torres graduated from Florida International University in 1989 with a degree in Psychology and a Minor in Dance. She danced with Mia Michael's Miami Movement Dance Company from 1989 to 1993. Her other teachers/choreographers include Lee Brook, Jane Carrington, Leslie Neil, Dianne Guida for modern - and Joe and Dana Michaels for Tap.
In 1991 Talani formed Miami Children's Dance Ensemble with the intention of creating a young performing company with whom she could explore the non limitations of young dancers. Her vocabulary of movement is influenced by her early jazz and tap training, her acting experience, contact improvisation, the visualization of words and feelings and the ability to channel just about everything into movement. She has been presenting work in Miami as well as abroad since 1993. Her latest project is 'dance on the run' - taking pieces and performing them at different urban locations spontaneously and unannounced. Her inspiration comes from her students.
THE DANCE SPACE
"Besides basic
technical foundation, I enjoy taking the children a step further...to see them discover
new territories both in dance and in themselves. Performance is always rewarding, and the
creative process......well, that's magic." Talani Torres |
