DANCE OF COLORS

If someone asked her
about love,
she knew.
It's not something,
she'd say you give
on one hand
and expect back with another.

                If you do, she admonished
                you'll come up empty
                with a heart that's broken,
                and three sizes smaller.

No, it's like feeding the birds
who'll snatch every crumb
then fly away
sometimes forever.

But, you do it, she'd say
                                                just to hear the music
                                                and feel the dance of
                                                their colors.
