"Oh, come on, Catlin," said Tully, jogging to catch up to her. "No. What you did was wrong." "Cat, Roman merchants can't just go around overcharging people." "Still, booby-trapping his stall like that wasn't called for,"she replied, stopping to face Tully. He shrugs, Alright, Cat, you got me. Still," he continues as he starts walking away, "it's a shame we didn't get to stick around to see his face." Catlin stares at his retreating back in laughing disbelief. "Tully!" He turns, griing from ear to ear, "Come on, Cat, we're almost home. Only a mile or so more!" "Only a mile or so," she says to herself, shaking her and smiling as she reshouldered her bow and looks up through a break in the trees. The smile fades fast. "Tully! Look!" she cries, pointing to the immense column of black smoke rising from the direction of home.

As they raced back, Catlin feared the worst. Praying to her God that Conor and Fergus would be all right, she ran inside to find Longinus smiling at her. Not a friendly smile, of course, but a smile that made her hate him even more for what he did to her Savior. Tully stopped dead in his tracks behind her. "He burnt the entire village down," said Tully from behind Catlin.

"what if I did?' Longinus said, still smiling. A sudden rage caught Catlin and carelessly she ran in to him. She grabbed her dagger and tried to hit him with it, but Longinus, being stronger and far more experienced than she was, easily overpowered her, even before Tully could do anything to help her. Longinus threw Catlin against the wall, she fell down and looked up to him in terror. Now Tully tried to help Catlin and overmaster Longinus, but soon he sat next to Catlin on the floor, looking up to Longinus. "fools!" Longinus shouted "Why should I burn your hiding place, when there is no one there? Look around you!!" Tully was the first to stand up and look around. He saw that Longinus was right, their were no bodies, apparently nobody had been there when the fire began.... He turned back to Longinus. "Then what has happened, and why are you here?" he asked. Longinus did not look at Tully or Catlin when he said, with hardly noticeable pain in his voice and expression: "I am here to warn you."

"Why should we believe you?" Catlin asked angrily, Longinus turned to her and started to laugh. "You shouldn't! But since i have your belloved prince you are MINE!!!" he said to her, Catlin jumped up and swung a punch at Longinus but he blocked her hand and twisted her arm behind her back and he pulled her to his chest. Tully jumped up but stayed back, Longinus bent down and whispered in Cat's ear "The prince is mine then so are you" Catlin struggled, but Longinus twisted harder and she cried out hoping that it would not break. "You're coming with me girl and will work for me" Longinus told Catlin "No! You can make me!!!" she shouted back, he pulled her back "You work for me or you never see your darling prince again" he told her sturnly. Catlin slowly rode into the roman castle with Longinus ahead of her and she had two guards behind her, she had agread to come to the castle aslong as while she worked for Longinus she could have a promise that Conor would not be hurt.
