s birthdays go, this one was relatively tame. No surprise parties, no drinking binges, no extravagant presents. Except for a dinner out at Chili’s and a short trip to the mall, we just stayed home and relaxed all weekend -- and nothing could have suited me any better.

We even watched most of the football action this weekend, from the comfort of our own bed. There’s not much that could be more decadent than watching football while laying in bed, snarfing Goldfish crackers. Well, to be honest, my wife fell asleep about halfway through the Rams/Buccaneers game, but I don’t hold that against her.

I talked to my parents twice this weekend, and I think they helped me feel a little bit better about my lot in life. They keep telling me that God is going to work everything for good eventually, and to just have faith – I do have faith, because I’ve seen things like this work out for people before, but the waiting around is making me weary. The fact that I’ve just hit another birthday hasn’t helped matters – I think I’ve turned the corner from birthdays being fun and exciting to birthdays just making me feel old and decrepit.
