've been getting lots of new toys lately.

I think I go through one of these phases every year or so. Compared to some of my toy binges, when I bought things like a new PC, or totally new stereo system, or a synthesizer, this one has been rather tame, probably because (1) it's nearly tax time, and the IRS doesn't treat two-income couples with no kids and no mortgage very well, and (2) for 2000, I'll have an extra bouncing baby deduction to put on my 1040 (I actually had the gall to use this joke in front of my wife once, and she didn't seem too offended by it. I think she either wasn't listening to me, or had no clue what I was talking about.)

I bought a new portable Minidisc player/recorder, since my other player skips every time you pick it up and move it/tilt it in a certain direction/look at it the wrong way. Its great to be able to take it with me again, and I've been occupying myself at work by listening to all these fun things like the Billy Joel show listed above (of course, I'm working too….)

I always say that in my dreams, I want to be a rock star. I think in reality, I’d like to be a record producer. The combination of working with music and fancy electronic gizmos with hundreds of flashing lights just makes me drool.

Since I have no chance of being hired by, say, Sony Music, I’ve tried to make myself an amateur recorder. I now have a setup where I can tape cassettes, CD’s, records, VCR tapes, and even DVD’s to minidisc, making custom mix tapes or whatever is my fancy for the day. But even this isn’t enough – next I want to be able to connect digitally to a computer, so I can go from minidiscs to CD-R’s to MP3’s……. BWAHAHAHA!!!

THEN I WILL RULE THE WORLD!!!!

Well, maybe not, but at least I’ll be able to make it sound good….
