Friday, July 7 – Induction Into The Hall Of Parenthood

he next time I step foot into this office, I’ll be a father.

Ain’t that a kick in the pants?…

The doctor said that the baby is undoubtedly ready to go, although my wife hasn’t shown any signs of labor yet. So, if nothing happens over the weekend, they are going to induce labor.
Meaning, ready or not, here he comes!…

t’s been tough going to work this week. (Of course, at this job, it’s tough going to work every week.) I’ve found myself less able to concentrate than usual, and wanting to rush out the door by 2:30 in the afternoon, although, like a good little corporate soldier, I didn’t. I wasn’t even supposed to be here – I told everyone I’d be gone by now. That’s what I get for trying to make my baby’s birth conform to my work schedule.

My parents are in town – they’ve been here for two weeks or so, and I think this is the first time I’ve mentioned it – but they’re trying to give us as much space as possible. They’ve even rented an apartment for the time they’re going to be here. Neither we nor they are really extroverted people, so I have this fear that they’re trying to avoid us just because they think we want them to try to avoid us, which isn’t really true. The only problem is, there’s really not much of anything for us to do, except watch TV. Everything is ready for the baby – all of his furniture is put together now – so we don’t really have any chores that need to be done (except for a mountain of laundry).
