I created this drawing in 1981 and in many ways it marks the threshold of my interest in architecture. The Pantheon is one of the great masterpieces of Roman architecture and because it is so exceptionally well-preserved it allows us to experience its effects at first hand. The most dramatic experience is the change from the traditional Greek pedimental porch to the spacial domed rotunda interior representing the cosmos. The superimposition of the interior on the facade in the drawing is my attempt to express this dialectic transformation.
