Syavash's Biography Continued

Syavash Shaghayegh was born in an ordinary place on this planet Earth on an ordinary day, perhaps in the warmth of a loving family. Like other children, he too fell down the stairs; broke a few windows here and there while playing soccer in those summer afternoons and cheated during school exams. He does not believe his birth information, such as place or date is of any importance or anything extra ordinary, so he spares the readers of such.

Syavash Shaghayegh started his adventures in writing at the age of 16, when he began to write in Farsi. Years later when he left Iran --leaving his heart at home-- he started expressing himself in English too. For him writing is not a profession, just a responsibility of high importance he feels towards people. To him, his writings are like the air he breathes.

Since his early childhood he has always had this dream of being present at every moment of the life of ordinary people; to experience every single detail in their lives, without having his presence noticed; like an old dirty torn green velvet sofa in the living room, which has been abandoned through generations. Writing about people, their sorrows, and happiness gives him the utmost pleasure. He believes a writer should be one among people and be writing about them, so he can share a piece of their laughter or cries.

Before leaving Iran, his writings had never been exposed to public criticism. But he soon changed his mind and so his English poems were published in the university's papers. Later on, when he posted his poems on the Internet, more professional journals offered to have them published. For example: his poems titled "Question " and "The Last Confession of The Cardinal, Who Committed Adultery and is Facing Death, to the Pope " were published in the "Outlet" Poetry Journal of NY USA, in summer and winter of 1997, respectively. His poems titled "Confession" and "Prisoner" reached the semi finals of National Library of Poetry competition in 1996 and 1997, respectively (Although he decided not to publish them.).

At last but not least, Syavash Shaghayegh never dares to call his works professional poetry or novels. He considers his writings his flesh and blood, and a very personal diary.

"Getting the poems and writings published is not important, to have them understood and to make a difference is the goal."
