A STARRY BUBBLE
by Sean and Eri
c

Have you ever seen stars in the day time? Well, we have! It all started when Miss D. told us to line-up for StarLab. We didn't know what StarLab meant. When we got to the Multi-Purpose room we were surprised to see that StarLab was a bubble! When we went inside there was a light machine. When the man turned it on it was dark and the stars were all around us. He showed us how to find the North Star. We also saw many constellations. One of them was a constellation of a dog. The man told us a story of how the little and big bear got in the sky. There is also a star called Beetle Juice, but its scientific name is Betel Guise. The man said since we were studying the stars that we're astronomers! Inside the bubble, it felt like were going to float in the air! We learned a lot about stars and constellations!

MARS POLAR LANDER
by Chris M. and Chris F.

One day Miss Rayder said, "I have a great project for you!" The project was called, "Send Your Name to Mars!" NASA is trying to collect 1 million names of school children from around the world. NASA is putting all of the names on a CD-Rom, and then it will go in the payload of the Mars Polar Lander. This exciting event is going to happen on December 3, 1999. The Mars Polar Lander will land about 500 miles from Mars' south pole. This is what we had to do for this special project: Miss Rayder showed us the certificate from the computer and all we had to do was sign our names on the Internet on the school's big computer. Each one of us got a special certificate with our names on it. Mars is the planet that people are going to explore and discover. On May 9th, Miss Rayder checked the NASA web site and found out that over 700,000 kids had already signed up. It is going to be exciting for us because we are going to be part of history! Blast-Off Videos
By: Megha

Everyone in Miss DeBonis's class watched a video with the Magic School Bus in it about space. When Arnold's know-it-all sister wants proof that she was in space. She wants ice from Pluto, the great red spot from Jupiter and much more.

We also watched a movie in Miss Merritt's class called "Space Camp". It was really cool!!! It is about this boy Max who wishes to be in space. His robot friend Jinx heard him say his wish. Since five people including Max got to go inside a real spaceship, Jinx spoke to the NASA computers and they told Jinx how to make something go wrong to make the ship go up.
