My Original Poetry
All of the following was written and conceived by M.C. Franson.

Note to self: Some of these poems make no sense at all. What was I thinking?

REMEMBRANCE of YOU (8-14-89)

The sun shines on the grandfather tree

While I dream softly by the lazy blue sea.

I lie there thinking about my love for you

If only you knew that my feelings were true.

Now that sun sets, near these fields so green.

And I think of us in a gentle daydream

The night passes by, and I awake feeling free,

Wishing that you thought the same for me.

The Cemetery (1996)

As Digger gathered up his tools

We set off up the Cemetery Hill

The place where no one wants to go

Digger whispers a prayer and begins his trade

It is astonishing as to how quick he digs

Squares the edges and the grave is done

Cadbury is gingerly placed in the wood box

I remember the task of building it today

The box is covered, the grave is filled

I whistle the doxology as Digger backfills

Digger was Cadbury's only family

His right hand man that I now am

Sod tamped down, a story is told

When Cadbury fell in a fresh grave

We snicker and gather the tools

Descend the steep cemetery hill

The place where no one wants to go

Reflections (1988)

Through the walls I see and no longer reconquer,

The conformities which arise in the noblest manner.

A conformist is wise, his virtues are sin,

Anarchy above, and eager to begin.

Although his chatter is reminiscent and sweet,

His ability is to lie, molest, and cheat.

A reign of sarcasm befalls upon him.

He is a meek eccentric with a sinister grin.

I don't know why he conforms as he does,

He lies to his brethren, his peers, his kin.

Whale Song (1989)

The sea is rich with minerals galore,

Along its bottom is scattered iron ore.

I hear the whale song towards the setting of the sun,

Their cries are sad, they're victims of the gun.

The schooner sails long through the warm summer night,

I dream of dreams beyond human sight.

Now it is day, and I hear the whale song again,

I pray they'll never fall to mankind's deadly sin.

The NIGHT (1987)

Abnormal feelings amidst the space,

Numerous crawdads hide his face.

The wretched air about his feet,

No bathing for weeks.

His chin is nimble, his tongue so raw,

Abrasions and sores around his maw.

His balance is shaky, his mind still blank

He was run over by a think-tank.

But his remains are so horrible in sight,

He just hopes he'll survive the night.

The sun is dark, the sea is haze.

No cattle among these fields to graze

The streets are barren, torn, and shattered.

Just make it home, that's all that mattered.

Unfortunately, he was shot at first light.

Too bad for him, he'll miss the night.

The TRAVESTY (1988)

Creaky little cracks of ruin and disgust

The martyr is hiding, his passion and his lust

For a travesty of souls among the few for sharing,

Nothing left to hide, no lessons for the caring.

The travesty is along the road of misconception,

Missing for some time, an error in his collection.

The guilt is everflowing over the lives of the unknowing,

To dismay is to trust, no one knows where we're going.

I know where we're going.

The lives of the many are tattered and torn,

The pride of the few are haggard and worn.

Through its tired embrace with beauty divine,

Down the Valley, I must now decline.

CLOUDS (1987)

The clouds float by, over future's past

Looking for the reason why it shouldn't last.

The peak's shallow fragrance flows down to the oceans of blue

Searching for the life and the love that is true.

The cold, dark tunnel where no one can be found

Was buried in a tremor, it is one with the ground

Of life everlasting and everything sound.

TOWN of DUST (1988)

Lightning strikes twice in tis town of dust

Ripping and tearing after one man's lust

For the future of a man and his unfortunate key

And the vibrance of life and its industry.

One cannot see another's great trust

But we will always feel each other's lust.

Might you may, and may you strive

Off the edge and into the big blue you dive.

The town of dust grows weary through through succession

But may you never know of its untimely depression.

That town burned down twenty years ago

If you have never seen it,

You will never know.

RACE of FOOLS (1988)

The city is deserted, the night is young

I feel the cool winter breeze against my forehead.

And I think to myself why I am here

It is night and I have died,

The Grim Reaper continues his ride.

With my mind weary and my thoughts full

The new star begins his rule,

And tomorrow I shall be free.

Free from the troubles and hardships of all of mankind alone.

But I have let the new star destroy me and all the things I've created

And now I leave my country to be plundered by this selfish thing

Now let it be known that I am one that watches this race of fools,

And now I am Free.

The LONG DESERT ROAD (1987)

The accident ocurred on yonder day,

While I drove to El Paso, far away

Blinded by the setting sun,

I saw not the truck coming in my lane

Then I heard my passenger say,

"Look, look out!", and the day fades away.

I awoke in a white room, the moon was shining in,

And I see the Devil with a cynical grin.

He sneers and says, "You're dead you fool."

And I knew now I belong to the Devil's rule.

But then a warm glow shines through the door,

And I look at the Devil and he is no more.

A tall, gentle man steps in from the door,

And he says, "Alas my son, you are free to go home."

"Return to Earth and be free to roam."

And by some great feat, my affliction was gone.

I could feel the strength in my spirit forever long

I awoke thinking it was all a strange dream,

Until I realized the lord is king.

Judgement (1987)

I hear the wind blowing through the trees, through the trees.

I see him stand beside me and in fear I walk away.

As I look back, he is gone and no tracks in the snow where he stood.

But he is still there..........

It is now Spring and I walk among the dandelions

To see him give life to the blooming flowers that surround me.

The eternal fragrance flows through the grassy field that I lie on.

But still he is there.......

It was a time of prosperity in the cornfields of Kansas

People were happy, kids playful

Children were born to work on this field of plenty.

And still he is there...........

A common day in a bad city

An innocent is killed during a botched robbery attempt

Shot by a man whose lust for money is so powerful,

That he takes away those that stand before him.

He hears footfalls behind him

When he turns around there is no one there except for his destiny.

He sees his destiny in the eye of the beholder.

Today destiny is the vindicator of the innocent

He fires the deathblow through the robber's soul

The robber's heart of greed crumbles, and he is no more......

And he is there.......

He will always be there to pass judgement.

The Ballad of the Midnight-Blue Nova (1984)based on a true story

A light-blue car came barrelling down the street last night

and hit the midnight-blue nova with all of its might.

The next day Uncle Don woke up not too mean,

Until he heard her message on the answering machine.

She said, "I accidentally hit that nova of yers last night!"

So he ran outside and saw the horrible sight.

He ranted, raved and used some choice words

that a kindergarden teacher would never care to learn.

He wanted me to go with him with his baseball bat in hand,

To find the moron that did this!

I pitied that poor man.

Before he left, I stopped him

And I called the cops........

So he wouldn't hit the poor fella in the chops!

The police came and he showed them the mess

that made my uncle crazy, and gave him all this stress.

The police left, and they didn't file a report!

Uncle Don went in the house feeling rambunctious of the sort.

That midnight-blue nova isn't around this day.

But a traveler would walk by then and curiously say,

"What're those light-blue scratches on this car's side?"

And my uncle will smile and say, "It's only my nova's pride."
