The meaning of the
sign
I'll start with
the inscription at the bottom of the flag:
Labarum or Chi-Rho
it is an abbreviation of CHRESTON, "a good thing" or
good omen.
In Christianity it was adopted as the Chi- Rho, the first two
letters of "Christ"; it was the emblem of Constantine
(270-337 ad), the Roman Emperor said to have been revealed
to him in a dream; it was placed on his standard and on the shields
of his soldiers, thus putting them under the protection of Christ.
