Let me tell you a little about myself. You can see what I look like from the photograph alongside. (I'm the one with the red top. The other one is my pet Jack Russell, Chardonnay). I am a self taught artist, although I do have a diploma in Commercial Art. |
I was born in Zimbabwe and have subsequently moved to South Africa where I live in Port Elizabeth, on the South Eastern coast. I have a very deep love for the wild life of Africa and I try to depict the moods of Africa in my artwork. I also enjoy painting domestic animals and I have a growing collection of pictures of cats and dogs.
The mediums that I prefer to use are Oils, Pastels and Pen and Ink. I have done some work in Watercolours but it is not one of my favourite methods.
I work from photographs, generally from ones that I have taken myself so I have the need to go into the wilds of Africa to gather material. This has the added advantage that I am able to tell a story with each of my pictures. (And believe me there are some interesting stories.)
I have done some work for various people who wish to immortalise their pets. They send me a photograph of the beloved dog or cat (even horses) with a little bit of information regarding the character and personality which I try to capture.
As a change from the Animal Kingdom I have a bit of fun by doing some pictures of some of my favourite musicians.
