what's new with N S B
June 13, 2008.

Hello again viewers. 2 down, 1 to go... years in law school that is. No new artworks have been created in those 2 years, but I have just gotten around to photographing and uploading a picture of the last painting I completed before packing up the studio and starting school. It was done specifically for the apartment that Danielle and I moved into in 2005 after the Tilsner, and is now posted in the gallery.

In other news, I am very proud of Danielle, who is the center coordinator for the new collaborative project "Bridges to Safety"... www.bridgestosafety.org. The center will be opening very soon... if you feel so inclined, give them some support.

Long time no see! All is well, still in school (2nd semester of 2nd year), and still no new artwork. meanwhile, may I suggest...

As many of you who know me may already know, I am making a rather big change of direction. This week I begin law school at the William Mitchell College of Law. I am grateful for the opportunity to expand and challenge my mind, and I hope to bring an artistic point of view to the legal profession. Needless to say, my studies will grant me precious little, if any, time to make art. However, given my low output of paintings recently, it should indicate that I haven't felt I've had much to 'say', visually speaking. I do and shall continue to think of myself as an artist, and it is my goal to create as much as inspiration warrants and as often as time allows. This website will remain a place where I can showcase my art, but I will probably not be posting any insights, news, or scuttlebutt about the new legal side of NSB... think of it as a firewall. So as infrequent as updates may have been over the past few years, look for them to become even fewer and further between... it isn't that I'm avoiding you, I'm just really busy :)

I would also like to express my gratitude to the folks who have made this possible. My family is a great source of support and wisdom, birth, step, and in-law alike. My friends are also a great help and I count on them to help keep me centered. And of course Danielle, who I hope knows how important she is : )

I would also like to thank my, now former, employers of the past seven years. Shawn and Mark at Tradewinds gave me a job back when I was a Minnesota newbie, and provided a place for where an artist could earn a decent wage and yet maintain a fair amount of independence and individuality. Not only did they always treat me fairly, but they also encourage fairness with the customers. I would also like to thank many of the artists and customers who I met there over the years. Much good conversation, advice, debate, and humor has been shared.

April 22th, 2006.

We're back from the islands and had a fantastic time, a big "thank you" to Lynn & Steve for being such great hosts aboard Gustie, & ashore. Later at some point I'll post some pics from the trip.

Once again, it is Saint Paul Art Crawl time. Friday the 21st is already missed, but you can get your art on today, Saturday the 22nd, and now the crawl has added Sunday as well, check out the above link for details. Also be sure to check out my ol' neigbors at the Tilsner Artist Cooperative. Once again, I am not open and/or showing in the Crawl, why this time you might ask?...

...for now I shall just say there's a reason, and leave you with this...

Merry Christmas too all!

This holiday I would like to honor and remember my grandparents, the last of whom recently passed away. I thank them for all they did for me, and for all their wisdom still brings me.

Rest in peace, you are missed.

December 7th, 2005

Well it has been a long time since the last update. Not much new artwork to report on, although there is one new painting that I need to get a photo of and get put into the gallery. Back at the end of the summer, Danielle and I moved out of the Tilsner Building, and into a nearby highrise building with an awsome view and a balcony. While I'll miss the studio space and other artists at the Tilsner, we're still in the same neigborhood and we love the new place.

This year marks the 2nd year I have skipped my old tradition of making a xmas card, but please take a look at THE NSB XMAS CARD GALLERY , and everyone have a happy holiday season!

now on a sad note, yesterday my grandma Buttleman passed away. She was 88. Alice Jackson Buttleman studied art and was an early supporter and influence on me. Thank you Grandma, I'll miss you.

August 1st, 2005

Danielle & I are back from circumnavigating the Chesapeake Bay.
A big thank you to all the wonderful people who made our trip to Virginia so much fun! It was great to see those who we saw & we wish we could have seen those we didn't.

April 16th, 2005

I will not be open or showing in the Spring'05 Saint Paul Art Crawl, but I will be going out and looking at the art of others, & I'd encourage anyone and everyone to do likewise. The Crawl takes place Friday April 22nd, 6pm until 10pm, & Saturday April 23rd, 1pm to 6pm. Click here for the Art Crawl Website, and click here for the website of my building, the Tilsner Artist Co-Op.
Of course you can always E-crawl through my online galleries, and if you are interested in buying any art, just drop me an e-mail.

The reason for the busy schedule? Well with work, the season is the reason; the xmas rush in retail, fun fun.

Easter/April 11th , 2004

Big happy news!!

This morning I proposed to my girlfriend Danielle, and she said 'yes'. I am so full of joy and love, and I thank her for joining me for a life together. I wish everyone a happy Easter, but I'm pretty darn sure nobody is going to have a happier Easter than me:)

April 10th , 2004

Spring is here, and with it, the 2004 Spring Saint Paul Art Crawl. The multitudes of artists here in Lowertown will be opening studios to the public on Friday April 23rd and Saturday April 24th... except for me that is. Due to various happy circumstances (more about that latter ;-), it would be too inconvenient to "gallery-ize" my studio this time, but I fully intend to be back and open for the Fall Crawl in October. Of course I encourage all to E-crawl through my online galleries , take a peek at my resum, and as always, feel free to e-mail me at nathan@nsbpainting.com

While I will miss being open and showing my work, I am looking forward to going out on the Crawl myself for the first time in several years, and I encourage all to join in. Visit the Saint Paul Art Crawl website for more info.

I've also added a new feature here to this page. The column to the right contains an automatically updating news headline feed regarding the building I live in, the Tilsner Artist Cooperative. Thanks to tilsner.net, fellow Tilsner artists, and webmaster Nigel Parry for the nice content.

In memory of my Grandmother, Ruth Ange , who passed away early this morning.
