Angel In You

And every so often

I saw the angel in you

She was tall,

skinny like me

with this big ol' smile.

It was all lips

she never showed her teeth,

never saw a thing come from her mouth.

She was trapped

back rammed up against your ego

foot falling asleep

cuz there was no room

to bend her knees.

But she never said a word.

I liked her,

she was a lot like me

And I think she's why I stayed

I felt bad,

cuz for so long I had mistaken her

for just another facet of you.

Stolen her identity,

her voice, if she ever spoke.

And I felt bad

so I hung around.

Till you took her over

Slowly, bit by bit

she disappeared.

Now there's nothing to keep me here

no reason to deal with you

anymore.

So I'm gonna follow her

leave with a smile on my face

and never say a word.
