"They say people start to look like their dogs,
but I just don't see it."

Hi. I'm Luna and this is my mom, Ann. She paints on silk and now that she has a computer (whatever that is!) she does a lot of clicking around on a big plastic box. I mostly just watch and when I get bored I beg for bones, or just for fun I see how many times I can get her to let me out, then back in, then back out, then back in, then....

Before I knew her, Ann went to school at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) to study art at their School for American Crafts. She says if you like snow-covered bricks, you'll love RIT! Ann majored in ceramics and textile design. When she got out of school she planned to do crafts full-time, but took a detour when she got involved with her family's screenprinting business doing design, screenprinting and management. If you are thinking of starting a family business, you might want to have your head examined.

After leaving the business, she finally was able to do artwork full-time and began doing juried contemporary craft shows, many organized by the American Craft Council or the Rosen Agency. Primarily selling her handpainted silks, and later, her soft sculpture figures, her work has been sold in galleries across the country and in the Caribbean. Throughout this time she also did freelance graphic design for a local magazine, designed her own support materials for her business, and designed T-shirts.

A growing interest in graphic design led Ann to take computer graphic courses at Maryland College of Art & Design. She has now begun the next chapter of her career as a graphics/web designer. This is her web design debut! It was written entirely in HTML without the use of any web programs.

Ann will continue her work in crafts on a more personal level. The computer now sits in her studio along with her sewing machine and paint brushes. She plans to use it as another tool of expression in her fiber art.
