Character Analysis: Laertes
                                             By Katie Murren

A.
The place that this scene takes place is in Elsinore in a room in the castle.  The
castle that they are in is in Denmark.  It is near the town that they are in.  The
gentleman is describing Ophelia's problem and is when she is going to come
back in to talk to the Queen.
It is in the 1600's.  I believe that this is in the witner time, probably about
January.  It is dark outside, but not nighttime.  It is a Tuesday, mid-day and cold
so most people are inside.  Shakespeare made it in this time to make it more
dramatic.  Make the situation of Ophelia's fit the time of day and the weather,
make it seem more dull and depressing.
B.

The scene before is when Fortinbras is going to make his move on Poland.
Hamlet is depressed and is talking of a dull life and his revenge.  He is saying
     how his honor's at stake.
C.

It is still cold and mid-day.  Laertes is tired because he just arrived back from
school because of his father's death and finds out about his sister's lunacy.  He
is sad and confused and probably wishes he had stayed around because if he
did, none of this might not of happened.
D.
I really want everything to be as it was.  I want my father back an I don't want
my sister to be crazy.  Maybe if I stick around a little while maybe everything will
be normal again.  It  won't bring my father back but it might help my sister.
My newest obstacle is Hamlet.  I want him dead because he killed my father and
of what he did to my sister. I know the Claudius can help me.  He wants to get
Hamlet too.  Hamlet can hurt me though. He is who I have to watch out for.
He is one of my fears because if I get  caught for treachery I can not get revenge.
The way I can get what I want is by killing Hamlet.  I must be on the down low
about this because if I get caught I will be killed.  I will find help by asking the
King.  He wants Hamlet dead too, so he will help me kill him.  When I get this
my revenge will be done and I will feel like I have accomplished my duty to my
    father.
E.
Laertes objective of this play is to succeed in the things that he wants.  For examples,
going to school, revenging for his father by killing Hamlet, and taking care of his
    sister.
