Diving

All the photos on this page were taken during a underwater photography course I went on during a holiday in the Red Sea.

The pictures were taken with a Sea & Sea Motormarine II camera (sadly not mine). Click on thumb-nails to enlarge the pictures!

Safety Stop

When we dived the wreck 'Ghiannis D.', we stayed down right upto our limits, so had to make a 3-minute safety stop on the way back up. In a strong current, we all ended up hanging on to the mast!

Clam

A macro picture of a clam I spotted between some rocks. It was about forty cm long, and smiled just in time for the picture.

Sponge

Another macro picture, this time of a sponge coral

Coral

More macro stuff, this was another coral with a slight pink tinge to it. I wish I knew enough about coral to be more descriptive!

Jellyfish

There were a lot of stingless jellyfish in the Red Sea, most no bigger than your fist. Their transparency gave me the idea of backlighting them with the camera strobe, and the effect is quite eerie.

 Clownfish

Clownfish are nearly always found close to an anenome which acts as its host in the reef. They have a symbiotic relationship in which the clownfish gains food and protection from the stings of the anenome's tentacles, and the anenome is cleaned and gets 'tickled'. (!)
