Title : A review of stylish texture design to create sacred art – Thangka Art for 3d animations.

Abstract:
Thangka in Tibetan means Thang_ga. As for the actual meaning here means “roll painting”. The idea of producing Thangka came from the painting in India. Thangka has strong influence in the Buddhism in Tibet. It is usually being use by the master during speech in order to explain to them about the historic of Buddhism. These days, Thangka Art can be dividing into few styles because they start have people out of Tibet produce it. Each of the art has its specific measurement for the characters and specific colour. The colours that use usually will be very shinning.
This research aim is to create stylize Thangka Art’s through texturing in 3D, so as to eliminate the stereotypical 3D looks. The focus of this study is about the style of Thangka Art. Besides, the colour scheme will be study and how these studies can be applied into 3D animations. An effective and efficient myth’s story is not only seen from its storytelling but also it’s texturing. Texturing is very important especially for myth’s story that full with mysterious. Most common 3D animations today go for photo-realism and western look. However the achieved effect is not as attractive and boring as sacred art – Thangka. Therefore, stylize ‘Thangka Arts’ will enhance the looks and appeal of the animation.

Thesis Issues:

Keywords:
· Stylize, texture, sacred art, Thangka art, 3d animation.

Aim:
To develop information on creating stylizes Thangka Art’s through texturing in 3d, so as eliminate the stereotypical 3d look.

Objectives:
· To identify the colour scheme and visual elements such as line, shape and perspective.
· To compare the style of Thangka Art with other eastern arts.
· To analyze the traditional method on how to produce the Thangka Art.
· To identify the value of designation and the meaning behind the Thangka Art.

Hypothesis:
I bealive that by applying traditional Thangka art into 3d animation, the animation will
become more intresting and will eliminate the 3d stereotypical look.

Thesis Development:
· Background studies the history and development of Thangka Art.
· Approach experience 3d artists and technical directors from product house to identify the various   techniques of creating stylize Thangka art texture.
· Proposed a customized Thangka Art texturing method / technique for 3d characters and   background.
· Interview experienced Thangka art master on the process of producing the outcome of Thangka   Art.s

Research relation to the Design Project Proposal:
This thesis will propose a customized texturing method/ technique to apply on my character and background in my animation.
