Students worked at Regional, Site and Project scales to create a cohesive Identity for the region. While encouraging tourism, special consideration was given to the Cultural/Historical, Ecological, Circulation and Economic Impact due to new designs and development.

Regional Alternative with Center at Vockerode :

Vockerode will become a multimodal, multi use hub for the Gartenreich, consisting of a major interpretation center, hotels, a new bioremediation garden and a research and development zone for the development of new environmental technologies. The power station will be demolished but two towers will remain as a testimony to the industrial heritage of the area. This alternative treats the industrial Gartenreich and the 18th century Gartenreich similarly. However the western elements of the GR are centers by themselves (Mosigkau, Grosskuhnau) with their own visitor centers.

The transportation strategy allows for visitors to reach Vockerode by car or rail (from Dessau) and then transfer to mass transport including train, bus and horse carraige. Woerlitz, Oranienbaum and Ferropolis are all accessible by train. Ferrolpolis is retained as a museum of industrial archaelogy, but the pit is flooded to create wetlands. Space is also provided for activities, including a motorcross, that will appeal to a young and active audience. The garden at Oranienbaum is restored and a bypass is constructed around the town center.
