      My Story

I am 52, I feel like I'm 90, why? Because I suffer from Fibromyalgia. One doctor I went to, 4 years ago, told me there was no such thing,it was just a name for a fake disease given to hypochondriacs to make then feel better. It didn't really exist. I did some research, found out it did really exist, dumped that doctor and moved onto another.

When I broached the subject of my chronic pain and fatigue with him, he said I was depressed. He was right. I have been chronically depressed for years but have had treatment and know the difference between depression and what I was now suffering, so, I dumped this doctor and moved on yet again.

The next doctor decided, after 6 months of treatment that didn't work, that possibly I was right and so he referred me to a rheumatologist. She did some tests (there are really no tests for FMS - she was testing for other causes) and then diagnosed me with FMS. Finally! I felt vindicated! These symptoms were not in my head as my children, husband and fellow workers (and I must confess sometimes even I) thought they were.

However, I still don't feel better. I taking the medications given to me, doing what I'm supposed to do and I hurt even worse than before. So I decided to do some studying learn about this condition.

This page is a the result of my research into this condition. If nothing else, maybe it will make me feel better to have a place to vent. I have found some good links for research and support. I have found a FMS ring and a support group (see the links below).

If you or someone you know is a sufferer of this condition, and you have any information you would like me to share, or something you'd like to know, please, E-mail me and I'll do my best to post your information, or find out what you need or where to find it. The Gypsy

What is Fibromyalgia? In 1987, the American Medical Association (AMA), recognized FMS as a true illness and a major cause of disability. Now, nearly ten years later, it is still unfortunately, too often dismissed as the "newest fad disease", and most physicians still lack the knowledge to diagnose and treat it.(I borrowed this paragraph from Desiree's Place)
