A quick update. Tho I am having troubles accessing(viewing) my own web page I'll add a little note I am living in Vancouver now. Out of the Navy(thank god) and attending BCIT working on a second diploma in electronic engineering. Computer control systems. Having a great time at it as well. Love it here in Van. Glad I finally made it. :) Here I am hanging out in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Yup. Dubai.. Went there a few years ago with our oh so wonderful Canadian Armed Forces(Insert sarcasm, LOTS). That day it was about 45 degrees Celsius. Too hot to work. Sooo... Jeremy and I decided that we would rather sit up on the mast than store ship. It was a lot more fun. We took our time cleaning the wind speed anemometers and enjoyed the sun. Lots happened in the Gulf. Too much to mention here.

I did manage to visit Korea, Japan, Thailand, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman and over a month in Australia. I have so many stories to share. So much was experienced, so many memories. Good and bad. Things that pop to mind are hiking in Australia for a month, taking part in a Buddhist festival in Japan, exploring the markets in Korea, U.A.E. and Oman. Ask me sometime for more. I can spend hours talking about it all.

Hey everyone.. Wow.. It's 2002. And guess what. I am a pensioner. ;) hee hee. My last day in the navy was on the 20th of Jan. It was a nice day that is for sure. I did enjoy the 11 years I was there. The memories and experiences were like nothing I have ever experienced. Some day I should sit down and write my memoirs about all of it. ;) Yeah whatever. Like I could remember it all. If you want stories ask me and I am sure I can share.

I have recently taken up a new hobby that has quickly become a full blown addiction. Reef keeping. I currently have four marine/reef tanks in my apartment here in Victoria. Very, very enjoyable. Too bad there wasn't more money in Marine Biology because I would do that if I could. I enjoy it that much. I am currently making some of the equipment you find on line and in stores for other people to lower the costs involved with the hobby. I can spend hours at a time watching the interactions in my tanks. Reading what I am looking at and seeing. I doubt I will ever lose interest. It is that all consuming. Yes. ALL CONSUMING.. But oh how great it is. I will be posting pictures of my tanks here shortly as you can see from the link up top. Sit tight and you will be quite amazed. In the mean time follow the MASV link. It's a Reef Club I am helping organize here in town with a good friend, Andrew(Canadian on the boards). You will find me as either darren0469 or my more often used name DJ88 on many of the reef keeping bulletin boards online.

I have been in the Canadian Armed Forces for over ten years now. I have lived in Quebec, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland until returning to BC. During my time in Halifax and Newfoundland, I was posted on board HMCS Gatineau and Ville de Quebec. Out here I have sailed on HMCS Annapolis, Calgary and Regina. The military gave me the opportunity to see a large part of this country of ours, learning to speak French and most recently getting my diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology at the Marine Institute in St. John's Newfoundland.  As well another diploma as an Electronics Systems Technician at Camosun college.

Photography is an interest of mine I had re-kindled with the purchase of a KODAK DC-120 Zoom digital camera. All of the pictures here are taken with that camera. No scanning was involved. I am extremely happy with the camera and have no complaints with it at all. I highly recommend it to anyone wishing to get into digital photography.  I costs a bit more than others available, but the photo quality is worth the initial expense. If you would like to know more just drop me a line and I will pass on what I know or what I have heard.  The other interests in my life are  Hiking (pretty much anything outdoors), Reading (anything that catches my eye), Music, Golf, Cooking (Asian or other Far East recipes), different Wines (Marachel Foch, Merlot and Rieslings are my favorites) and my computer. I am constantly trying to learn all I can, whether it is through reading, watching or off of my computer, one can never know too much in this life.

Through the process of owning a couple of computers and learning through trial and error I have taught myself all that you see here. I now use Front Page 2000 for the HTML work and Adobe Photoshop 5.0 for the graphics work. Both are phenomenal programs that allow you to do a wide variety of work and effects with graphics and web design. For the more difficult HTML(Java Script etc.) I still use the tried and true method of the Text editor. All you need is an imagination and a want to learn.

Well I figure this is where I will show you some of the pictures I have taken with my camera. Hopefully (work permitting) I will change these around every so often to show you anything new or other shots I have taken. I hope you enjoy them.....

I do have one request... If you would like a picture for your computer please ask me and I will send you the large copy. The ones here are only smaller versions. I would really appreciate it as these are my images and this would let me know what kind of interest there is in my pics...

Thanks,

Darren...
