Eating/Cooking/Restaurants
One of my favorite "sports" is gastronomy! I'm compiling a
list with the best restaurants/bars I've eaten. I was going to sort them
in some special order like Type of food, Descendent Order in
Preference or Price, but it's very difficult to do it because
many restaurants have different types of food, I like different things
each different time and price changes and it isn't easy to say what is more
expensive: a $10 sandwich or a $50 filet. So, I decided not to order them.
They are listed with a brief comment. Note that I tried to include only the ones
I think are accesible to regular people (like myself). It's useless to rank top
quality expensive ones (like Saint Honore) no one goes there too often!
So, here is my list with some comments. If you also like rating restaurants
and you have a good reason to disagree with me, or if you think I should
add something to my list, please e-mail me: edpin@unforgettable.com.
But I can't guarantee I'll change my mind (or this page), so be reasonable.
Before you take a look on my list I would like to say I'm not doing
any kind of marketing and I'm not getting paid to compile this list. This
is my own opinion and I have no intention to make any kind of advertisement.
Restaurants in Rio de Janeiro:
- Restaurante Candido's
Pedra de Guaratiba
Simply the best sea food in Rio de Janeiro. My favorites: Filé
de Linguado à bonne fame and Filé de Linguado grelhado
com molho de alho. Ummm... The place is nice and it's worth driving
all the way down to Pedra de Guaratiba, it's an enjoyable little trip.
- Sushi Brasil
Rua Maria Quitéria, 46 Ipanema
Best shushi bar & japanese food. Resonably priced. Don't miss their
Crocant Roll and Combinado Expresso you can order by phone
(521-4668).
- Doce Delícia
Rua Aníbal de Mendonça, ? Ipanema
The very best salad. No one has such good salads. Also has excellent other
types of food, like Frango com Mostarda e batata rostie one of may
favorites. They've just enlarged their place, so it's a lot more comfortable.
They've got great desserts too!
- Álvaro's do Fashion Mall
Shopping Fashion Mall, 2o. piso
The place is nice, the food is good. People say their Cozido is
good, but I don't like Cozido so I can't really say. I like their
Filé ao gorgonzola. Don't ask for fish, it's not good.
- Academia da Cachaça
Rua Conde de Bernardote, ? - Leblon
It's a small bar that serves Northern food & drinks. Very good and
very expensive. Order the Arrumadinho and Aipim frito com manteiga
de garrafa. And don't forget to drink Caipirinha de Cachaça
or Capetão.
- Cervantes
Rua Barata Ribeiro, ? - Copacabana ou Shopping Via Parque
If you enjoy sandwiches, this place is for you. They have a good variety
of them for a resonable price. Some of their dishes are also good, but
what I like most is their sandwiches, of course.
- Pizzaria Guanabara
Rua Aristides Espínola, ? - Leblon
The very best pizza in Rio de Janeiro. Just don't get a plain muzzarela
pizza. Muzzarela pizza is like vanilla ice cream or plain crackers, there
is no meaning ordering generic stuff. I like their 4-cheese, Portuguese and
many others. The place is ok, but there is an annoying TV inside. You could stay outside
at the porch and you'll still have fun. My friend
Alexandre Sieira loves
Pizzaria Guanabara so much, I don't know why...
To be continued...
