Layers are a powerful tool in Paint Shop Pro. Here is an example of using layers to create transparent text effects similar to the station call signs displayed by TV stations in the bottom right corner of the screen.

  • Create or load your background
  • Select LAYERS > NEW
    (Blend Mode normal, Opacity 60)
    Opacity determines how solid the text will appear.
  • Select a foreground color for the text, I used light blue in this example.
  • Create your text (I added a drop shadow).
  • Position it where you want it and deselect the text.
  • Be sure when working with layers that the current layer is the desired one as all operations will be performed on it (it will be checked under LAYERS)
