Creating & Using Papers

Papers are grey scale images which act as a template when using many painting & drawing in Paint Shop Pro. They are very useful & relatively easy to create. The Paint Shop Pro Tools which can employ papers are :


  • Here is an example using the brush tool & the "small bricks" paper provided with Paint Shop Pro.
  • The retouch tool can be used with various settings from the control panel (i.e.: raise/lower hue, soften) to create some interesting effects.

  • Load or create an image you wish to use for your paper (any image will suffice).
  • Select COLORS .GREY SCALE
  • Save the grey scale image in Windows .bmp format to the Papers folder.
  • Select FILE> BROWSE...
  • Locate the Papers folder in Paint Shop Pro & right click on your image
    (in this example lsphere.bmp).
  • Select RENAME
  • Rename the image imagename.tex
  • Close the Browse window
  • Using notepad open PaperNam.idx in the Papers folder
  • Type in the name you want to appear in the papers window.
  • Type in the actual file name you saved the image under on the line below.
  • Save PaperNam.idx.
  • Now whenever you wish to use your new paper choose the tool you want to use which supports papers.
  • From the control palette select your paper texture & you are ready to go.
  • Here is an example using the airbrush tool with a large size setting & "Large Sphere" selected from the control panel
